Hectors first tune on sale now, catch him in action this Saturday @ abstract :)

HECTOR.... .. . . . .

London has perfected the art of the DJ/shop assistant. By day Hector works alongside fellow DJs Heidi and Simon Rigg at Phonica Records in Soho, by night he's a firm fixture on the city's afterhours calendar.

Born Hector Morillo ("You can see why I don't use my last name," he laughs), the twenty-six year old arrived in London half a decade ago from Guadalajara, Mexico to score a job at Phonica and work his way up the DJ ranks, both in London at parties such as Kubicle and Mulletover and overseas at clubs such as at Space in Ibiza. These days he holds down a residency at the T-Bar in Shoreditch ('Sonic') as well regularly spinning Phonica parties and London institutions such as Rob Mello's Sunday night endgame Dig Your Own Rave.

Hector's profile is on the rise this summer. He's just moved into production with a debut twelve arriving on Dinky's label Horizontal next month, plus there is also a Hector single out on Phonica's fledgling new baby, the Phonica label, backed by a Martin Buttrich remix.

IT'S HERE! We're very proud here at Phonica to announce the launch of our very own label!! And we're even happier to see one of our own, Hector being behind our first release. For "Tension" he's teamed up with long-term friend and studio-collaborator Ben Bryant for our first offering. The aptly named "Tension" is a masterclass in suspense and hypnosis; a sleek, brooding techno cut which doesn't so much attack the danceflooor as enfold it. On remix duty we've managed to secure Appleblim - the Skull Disco co-founder and Apple Pips boss - in partnership with Al Tourettes. Typically unconstrained by genre expectations, the duo sculpt an epic, adventurous re-version of "Tension". Propelled at first by a galloping steppa's rhythm and analogue bass stabs, soon echo-drenched vocal samples and deep dub flavours take hold, before the track climaxes in heads-down, thrillingly linear four-to-the-floor style. Hope you like it as much as we do... Now in store!!
