This bugger is going towards 2 of my final overall modules, in puppet design and construction. It's caused no end of problems for me personally and practically and I've been waiting to finish it if only for the knowledge that I could then destroy it!! lol

The brief was to identify a character from a fairytale to make into a puppet, the type of puppet apparatus was down to myself as was the encoding of the story. I've chosen to create the Firebird from Grimm's The Crystal Ball and thus took oriental influences of the FenHuang bird into play to bring out a yin yang element within the concept. From this point on it started kicking in to steampunk, organic industrial elements and I ended up with this monstrosity.

This clip is from a test shoot I ran in the garden at night to check the newly installed and repaired lights; I need to sort out some half decent stills and clips of it tho for portfolio.

Yup yup made from scratch, individually selected the wood for the wings and bound them to hold the tension. Cast and coloured the latex sheet by sheet, sculpted and cast the head and talons; had a proper little production line going on. Had to buy in the mdf, lights and plumbing accessories used but it works well together.
