Ok we've been waiting for the sales pitches and hype to settle down and now bring you Centric Music's alternative Miami Review.

This year's conference more than made up for the rain soaked disappointment that was WMC 07. I must say the numbers did look a bit low this year but what do you expect with flights pushing 650 on some airlines. I know one of two who stayed in the Bates Motel to compensate!!

For the second year in a row there wasn't a standout track,which all the djs jumped on like in previous years. With one or two definitely bringing their "Party Set" to the conference, this is not to say there wasn't some quality "NO FILLERS" house played. But all to often faceless,filler,own label, weak house was offered up. I'll refrain from naming and shaming.

The Centric All access pool party made a big splash (pardon the pun) with some high quality dj sets against a backdrop of beautiful party people including loads of the plastics !!!. With over 400 people in attendance it was by far the liveliest of all the opening daytime events this year. A big thanks goes out to all those involved in making the event such a success. We have picked up 3 tracks since our return so who said the business side of the conference is dead ?

Best Daytime Event

1. Centric & Baldeelox - All access pool party
400 party people against of backdrop of sun, sand and quality house.

2.King Street - Yuca Lounge
Takes the number two spot mainly from the Studio Apartment Dj set and also for being the only venues upholding the smoking ban. (and that's coming from a smoker)

3. Danny Krivit - Shelbourne
Amazing performances from Joi Cardwell and Susu Bobien.

Best Night time Event

1. Aquabooty - Opium Lounge
Ame and Dixon rocking the terrace with a little Martin Solveig thrown in for good measure.

2. Louie Vega - Nocturnal
Never seen Vega play in an intimate venue, a heady mixture of latin,soulful and deep house mixed and eq'ed to perfection.

3. Push FM & R2 records - Love hate lounge
Absolute roadblock with standout sets from Karizma (OMG the future of Djing) and Dinji Brown - Alias Grant Senteno. (UK disco dancing champ circa 89)





Where did it all go wrong

1. Shelter - Shelbourne
As soon as Timmy took his shirt off I knew it was all over, completely crashed the vibe and the mixing for that matter shambles !!!

2. Defected - Set
Door staff from hell, you know you ain' t getting in guest list of not when you standing outside with Spen and Jamie Lewis who are both having trouble getting in. Spoilt what I hear was a good party

3. Dirty Bird - Studio A
Justin Martin is a Boss Dj but the dj after must have been on the pipe nothing but "Crack House" awful

4. Tony Touch - Blue
Stick to rap music

Gutted I Missed it

With over 600 parties in 4 days your bound to miss a few

1. Objectivity - Sobe
I heard it was a sardine can style roadblock with Dennis playing the set of his life. QUESTION Are the Martinez Brothers the Peaches and Trixie Geldof of house music

2. Karizma - PushFM & R2 Records party
Only caught the live re-edit of French kiss, reliable sources say this was the set of the conference

3. Back to the fundamentals - Nikki Beach
More for the plastics than the music

Cleared the room after 3 songs but a set of deep emotive house and keeping with the spirit of the conference all tracks on pre-release

I've never been to the WMC Shelter party but I can see why so many people go ,Sting played a top notch set full of twist and turns

Did you stay in the main room at Opium for all of Aquabooty? B/c the Music2 room was my highlight of Conference this year.

Went pass Set and the line was a mess, did'nt even want to temp it, a couple of friends bought their tickets online and they did'nt get in after standing an hour in that line.

Worth a read review Cory. Yep, the Set is a top venue once you are inside, great decor. This was definitely a sell out but if you are not there early, you will need to find another party as it happen to me last year @Friends of Ours (Soulfuric). Arrive early! ;)
