interveiw with Funky Disciples
right guys,

as Funky Disciples are set to smash up Norwich this weekend i caught up with them ahead of the event to you an insight in the duo set to taking the house world by storm.

Right guys.... You have been booked for Clique on Friday 25th August How
Did you both start out on your dj journey? And what style/type of music
got you hooked?

Seb Zito: It was when I was 13 and on holiday with family, and made
Friends
with a group of dj's & mc's who played on Kool FM, mainly played
D&B/Jungle.
From that day I was hooked on Pirate radio and started listening to
other
stations such as Chicago & Freak (US House & Garage). As for dj'ing, it
wasn't until later on when I had a go on my mates decks and was
instantly
Hooked. I'll let Tone tell you how we got our first pair of turntables.

Tony Churchill: My Journey started when I was 13/14 went round a friend’s house that had a set of turntables trying to mix garage music. From that day I wanted to be a DJ.
Oh god. Our first set of turntables was belt drive Sound Labs. They have got to be the worst turntables ever made. But we still managed to mix on them – I think.

Seb Zito: We used to cart those things all over London. Oh yea did we ever pay your mate for those decks???? Ha ha

Tony Churchill: No we did not, hope he don’t read this. Ha Ha

So Pirate radio played a big part in your journey, what about the club
scene?

Seb Zito: At the time we was far to young to go out clubbing so we'd
Rely on the radio stations, but we started going out at 16 to garage raves which were awful and a handful of D&B raves. Probably around 17-18 we went to Dirty @ Legends and we just went crazy for the music there, not only was it funky & uplifting but the crowd was buzzing, no attitude just love for music, that’s when the love of house kicked in for us.

Tony Churchill: Seb, at the time garage raves were the dog’s nuts, but when you look back they were pretty bad. Over the years the club scene has helped us massively by keeping us in touch with what tunes are hot and what tunes are not. We have also met a lot of people through the clubbing scene which have led to bookings.

So what style of music do you play now? And how has it changed over the
course of time?

Seb Zito: at the moment.
We started with House, Funky, Old Skool, Club Classics then we secured a residency with Smartie Partie and now we pretty much play
everything as Trace moves us between the two rooms. But I started
listening to D&B and I must say I love a good dark, dirty beat and bass line so I love the Tech/Electric/Dirty stuff that’s circulating

Tony Churchill: When we first got into house we played soulful/funky but since then I think music has evolved into the darker side of things, which I’m loving. Right now I’m loving the twisted Electro stuff.

You guys are doing pretty well with your dj'ing, where do you see your
self
in 10 years time?

Seb Zito: ha ha there is so much more to learn & achieve, we've still
got a long journey a head of us. But I’ve been working in my studio and going through the whole learning curve of music production... which ive got to say is driving me insane but I’m sticking at it and will hopefully have something finished sooner or later. As for dj'ing, it’s all about having fun, building on our fan base & just tearing up every possible club in the world.

Tony Churchill: I would like to see myself more on the producing side of music. But for now I’m loving the Dj’ing.

So your booked for Clique, have you ever been to Norwich? What are you?
Expecting from the crowd?

Seb Zito: I’ve never been to Norwich and I have no idea what the crowds
like but I cant fucking wait. I’ve heard a few good things about Norwich so I’m just going to wait and see for myself.

Tony Churchill: Never been Norwich but used to stay in huge cottage somewhere in Norfolk for weekends when a was a small boy. Never been clubbing in Norwich so have no idea what the crowd will be like but where ever you have good house music the crowd will love it.

Seb Zito : ha ha I remember that cottage now; we could have a massive party in that place!

Tony Churchill: Tell me about it. That place had a mini bar, games room, pool table, 800 bedrooms and about 20 acres of land.

Sex, drugs or egg rolls?

Seb Zito: All three at the same time could be interesting!

Tony Churchill: Don’t know about egg rolls but sex, drugs and toast at the same time works for me.

Secret hangover cure?

Seb Zito: Get straight back on it.

Tony Churchill: Have to agree with Seb on that one

Have you ever played the soggy biscuit game with your friends?

Seb Zito: Na mate, that's just sick.

Tony Churchill : You’re sick

Legs, Bum, or breast?

Seb Zito: Heartbeat!! Ha ha Na I love a nice peach of a bum.

Tony Churchill: Defoe Bum. I also love my girlfriends back.

What are your guilty pleasures? (No sick twisted sex acts please boys)?

Seb Zito: In that case I'll keep quiet.

Tony Churchill: You can’t ask that question and take out the sex part

Marmite-yes? No?

Seb Zito: Yes, I love that shit, don't even need bread, eat it straight
Out the jar.

Tony Churchill: I will have to be really annoying and say I don’t mind it.

and with that they were gone, however you can catch them smashing up room 1 at mustard on friday 25th aug
