Love 'em & Leave 'em this VALENTINES @ INFECTIOUS BREAKS / Sat 14th Feb

BREAK A HEART this Valentines’ and pop your breakbeat cherry with a trip to the HAVANA BAR, SOUTHSEA on SATURDAY 14th FEBRUARY where INFECTIOUS BREAKS drop some of the most on-point street-beats, bleeps & breaks around.

All set to get hearts beating faster and send those pulses racing are Southampton duo MOBIUS who have been long lasting friends for over 8 years due to their shared love of the dance music scene in its many forms. Ali ran and was DJ at the successful Debauchery night in Southampton from 2000-2002 (Voted Ministry club of the south in 2001), and Jon ran a weekly Drum & Bass night – Toast, with the pair also collaborating for the Mixmag Recommended Offshore Boat Parties, fusing many dance styles under one roof.

With these influences in place, plus a long history of DJing stretching back to early Rave & Jungle (Jon), and House & Techno (Ali), the scene was set for them to take this mishmash of styles into the studio. The first track to be completed under the Mobius name is THUGS, a massive dirty party smasher with huge sub, rolling drums & snapping snares that leads to a wicked breakdown and taking its influences from Hip Hop, Miami House, Drum & Bass and the contemporary Breaks scene which is out now on APE MUSIC. Think tearout meets booty breaks and you’ll be only halfway to the monster that is THUGS!

Ali has been heavily involved in the Breaks scene for a number of years, hosting a show on NuSkoolBreaks.co.uk radio, the weekly ‘Mobius Trip’, and currently holds residencies at Mixed Up in Southampton and Breakdown in Brighton and is always on the lookout for new dancefloors to play his intelligently constructed and technically excellent sets to.

Jon is concentrating on the studio projects at present with other Mobius tracks being rinsed all over the breaks scene from DJs including Tayo, Ben and Lex, Kickflip and Richie Balboa, whilst the 601 remix of Thugs has also received airplay on Annie Nightingale’s Radio 1 show.

Guaranteed to get the knees trembling of his adoring legion of fans is Mr Cupid himself, GAV RAVENOUS, an oldskool raver after being introduced to the underground dance scene at the infamous Torpedo Town festivals with Spiral Tribe and the legendary Sterns nightclub in Worthing. From this it was a natural progression as he ventured into dj’ing in 1993 and began to play at the amazing Bananamoon parties which in effect kick started requests for regular sets at nights such as Technosis, Wobbleberry, Oblivion and Prophecy.

During this time Gav became involved in the outdoor party scene and purchased his first soundsystem which was subsequently named Ravenous. Three soundsystems and numerous teknivals and warehouse parties later Gav purchased 15k of Funktion-One and has never looked back with collaborations with many other promotions all over the country including Punchfunk, Section 63, Psychosis, Project Storm, Antiworld, Archangel, Resonate, Filth Infatuated, Psyco, Out-Break, Overload, Generator, Gatecrasher and Underground City alongside his own TRIBAL MEDICINE parties and regular residency at CONTACT.

With musical styles varying from electro house to breaks to tech trance and techno depending on the crowd and of course the promoter! Gav has played at clubs including Canvas, Ministry of Sound, The Fridge, Hidden, The Sanctuary and Lakota and has also been fortunate enough to play at festivals such as Hifi and Global Gathering 2006 and Waveform 2007/08.

Competing for the affections of the Infectious massive and losing his virginity behind our decks is competition winner PAUL HILLS, a local DJ with an everlasting love for acid house, house, breaks, electro and techno music. Paul has previously played for Technosis aswell as internet radio and can usually be found at nights such as Punchfunk and Illumidance.

Mixing poetical ramblings and slushy love songs in a blaze of vocal sickness is SIDEKICK MC.

Forever trying to charm the pants off anything that moves are the residents who provide a slick ‘KY’ selection of electro-essence breaks with the typically dirt-ridden, teched-out missionary approach from The CUBISTS, the bottom pinching heavy rolling grooves of PROMO + IGNITION and the fresh & funky doggy styles of LEE MARTIN & MARK MARTIN.
