Q: Where do you discover new music? CDs from friends? Online Store recommendations? Satellite Radio? Live gigs?
With the music world rapidly changing, the process of how people discover new music has always interested me. I thought I'd ask around some of my networks. I'd really appreciate a quick reply below.

Many Thanks!

Lee.

Juno mostly - listening to 5,000+ clips a week! Radio 1 specialist shows too. Other random podcasts from around the web. Tend to not be influenced by recommendations but more on what I actually like the sound of.

I've nearly given up trying to listen to all of Beatport/Juno's digital releases, they seem to push any old crap nowadays, to be honest, no quality control. So with the online record shops I tend to check the new releases from the labels that I trust. Apart from that, Myspace is a really good tool, keeping a check on the blogs, seeing who's working with who, who people are charting in their blogs. The DJ charts on Resident Advisor are also a good source to new releases. but for digital DJs netlabels and netlabel podcasts are really good. On the occasion that something is released that I really love, I'll go into a record shop and buy the vinyl, and see what else they try and push on me in the shop, but it's usually disappointing.
Mixatapes from inspiring new producers are usually a good source of new music for me.

Q: Where do you discover new music?

1)Physically going into my Local independant Record shop - Spun Out, N'hampton
2)Monthly E-Mail out from Vinyl Underground, N'hampton
3)Beatport (I only look for associated artists, I don't search by genre)
4)Banging tunes monthly e-mail out
5)Discogs (but thats more for old tunes that are new to me)
6)Myspace - Updateds from artists in friends lists.
7)BOA - music forum.
8) Promos sent to my e-mail.
