Phunk Junkeez phunkjunkeez.com

Through their consistent touring, record sales and visibility, the Junkeez have developed a core underground fan base. It's the fans that have always kept this band moving forward and upward. The PJ's have sold over 250,000 units and gained a dedicated 50,000 plus MySpace fans, who have already checked out the sneak-peak release of the song & video for "JOIN IN". The PJs perform over 120 shows a year in the United States, and with Japan on the rise, they are gaining a strong international following. The Phunk Junkeez have toured extensively over the years and performed with the likes of Primus, Kottonmouth Kings, No Doubt, Pennywise, Incubus, Run DMC, Lenny Kravitz, Insane Clown Posse, Wu Tang Clan, Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, Linkin Park and most recently 311.

The Phunk Junkeez have been featured on more than 40 film, television and videogame soundtracks such as: "Harold & Kumar Go to Whitecastle," "Tommy Boy," "Adidas World Cup Soccer," "NBA Finals," "Fox Sports," "ESPN X-GAMES," "Last Ride," "American Werewolf In Paris," "Disturbing Behavior" and "ATV v. MX 3."

Through it all, the PJ's continue doing their thing, staying true to who they are and not buying into any of the trends of the moment. They have ultimately become a catalyst & stable for a style of music which they helped create. Jumbo Jim adds, "from the start we were always doing our own thing, and we still bring that original Phunk Junkeez style to every show and party we put on."

MIKE DEARBORN - Chicago, Illinois
(mikedearborn.com - Majesty/Majik Gruuv – tiny Management)

Mike's interest in music took a turn when he began listening to a radio station called WBMX (which is no longer in existence). On that station, he would listen to programs like the Hot Lunch Mixes as well as the Friday and Saturday night mix shows. On these shows, you could here the likes of Farley ‘JackMaster’ Funk, Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley, and Frankie Knuckles. This is when Mike's interest in DJ'ing was sparked.

It was not long after that Mike became interested in producing. He and his brother would experiment with a Roland TR-505 and a Casio sampler. Mike began producing on a more serious note in 1988. In mid 1989, he released his first 12’inch with a schoolmate named George titled “Make the Music” and “Uninhibited Desire” on the legendary Chicago Trax/Housetime label. The exuberance in releasing his first record soon turned into frustration from dealing with a ‘shady’ label.

In January of 1991, Mike teamed up with George again to release a three track EP. This EP was released on Warehouse/Muzique Records. Again the excitement led to disappointment.

Having released two records and seeing no return, Mike stop producing and DJ'ing and concentrated on obtaining a Degree in Communications-Media Studies from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL. In March of 1992, while back in Chicago for the weekend, Mike visited a friend to listen to some records. While listening, he came across a record on the DJAX UP BEATS label by Terrace a.k.a. Stefan Robbers of the Acid Junkies. Impressed to find a label that was releasing that style of music, he prepared a demo and sent it to DJAX. Soon after, he received a call from Saskia Slegers a.k.a. Miss DJAX. He signed with DJAX and began a 4-year relationship with the label.

After signing with DJAX, Mike began to DJ throughout Europe. His first DJ gig in Europe was at rave in Paris, France for a crowd of about 7000 people. Other highlights include touring in Australia and Brazil, DJ'ing at Germany's biggest rave MAYDAY 7 and performing live at MAYDAY 8. This was Mike's first live performance in Europe. It was also broadcast live on Viva, Germany's MTV equivalent and voted #8 in the top 10 international live performances of the year by FrontPage magazine, Germany's leading dance magazine at the time.

Other noteworthy DJ gigs include Ministry of Sound in London, The Rex in Paris, Tresor Club in Berlin and MelkWeg in Holland. Mike has also played in other countries such as Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Norway, Spain and Portugal. In addition, Mike has played some of North America's best clubs like The Limelight, Sound Factory and Twilo in New York, Shelter and Karma in Chicago and Industry in Toronto as well as many underground parties throughout the world.

Mike was also seen in the critically acclaimed documentary film “Modulations”.

Mike has remixed artists such as Gary Numan, Hardfloor, Joey Beltram, Robert Armani and Steve Stoll. Mike has headlined events worldwide with DJ heavyweights such as Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Daft Punk, Dave Clark and Westbam.

Mike graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Communications-Media Studies degree in December of 1995. He returned to the Chicago area in the summer of 1996. Soon after, he parted ways with DJAX Records and started two labels, Majesty Recordings and Majik Gruuv Records.

While Mike will be spending more time pursuing goals not related to music, he will continue to produce and DJ.

Brian Ffar - (Siteholder Records, UnCut) CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

He has been DJing for almost a decade now, and over the years his sound has always had an affinity for the techier side of things. While current techno has been polarized by European influence, He has been trying to push all of the freshest, most innovative music available – and the response has been extremely enthusiastic. His goal, when He started DJing, was to evolve as an artist that works creatively with respect to programming. Light-speed innovations in music technology have brought all kinds of music closer to what can be considered “mainstream”, which has been a blessing as well as a challenge. He is still a huge fan of digging through the crates for vinyl, and finding obscure records that nobody else is playing at the moment. You won’t find many “new this week” tracklistings or mixes with only old obscure stuff on them. He loves music, no matter when it was made, and trys to mix old and new as he enjoy the challenge it brings to programming sets. Throughout his career, he has been able to meld my love for house, techno, and electro into an experience that has caught the eyes and ears of many contemporary DJ’s, clubgoers, and listeners worldwide.

Within the last few years, Brian has had the good fortune of traveling as an international DJ, and has met some amazing, like-minded people along the way. Through these travels, Brian's been both the opening DJ as well as the headliner, and appreciate the subtleties of both positions intensely. Production work has taken a serious step into the forefront of his musical life. Over the past couple of years, Brian has secured record deals with some domestic as well as foreign labels such as Gourmet Recordings and Tic Tac Toe.

He is also co-owner of Siteholder Records, the brainchild of Chicago natives Billy Dalesandro, Daniel Mnookin, and himself. Residing in the city that gave house music its name, Siteholder strives to combine the various elements of modern techno with the jackin’ rhythms that put their hometown on the electronic music map. Siteholder has very quickly established itself as one of the most respected US techno labels in the world. As Sven Vath put it so eloquently, “Siteholder is putting Chicago back on the map”. The label has garnered some serious exposure, getting continuous support from techno giants Adam Beyer and Sven Vath.

Dj Inertia - (RepublikRecords.com

Something like a musical android, long time Phoenix resident Ryan Jeffs is constantly bridging the gap between human and machine, laying down syncopated atmospheres of computer generated music without sacrificing the heart and soul that people long for on the dance floor.

For nearly 2 decades Inertia has been at the forefront of electronic music, both as a DJ and Producer.

As a DJ he has played in just about every major market in the US, headlining at legendary clubs like Simon’s in Gainesville, Utopia in Las Vegas, and Last Supper Club in Seattle. At the local level Inertia has been resident DJ for some of the longest lasting and best electronic nights in Arizona, including groundbreaking clubs like Freedom and Insomnia, where he played along-side of some of the world’s most in demand DJ’s.

As a Producer his releases have been featured on shows like “The Essential Selection” on Radio-1 in the UK, and have found regular spots in the playlists of DJ’s such as Paul Oakenfold, Danny Howells, Sasha, Deep Dish, John Digweed, and others. Remixing (both requested and not) artists such as Elton John, Sinead O’Connor, Markus Schulz, and The Who.

A typical night with Inertia behind the decks might include a mishmash of electronic styles. Whether it’s uplifting or dark and brooding, he is going to find the sweet spot in the audience, and ensure they leave with sweat soaked clothes and smiles on their faces. Inertia holds true to the belief that the best records in the world don’t come from a specific genre, nor do they hold to a specific format. They are defined by the reactions they breed on the dance floor.

Steve Edwards- (FWD Entertainment)

Steve Edwards has been pioneering the sounds of tech house and minimal techno music throughout the Phoenix valley for some time now. His musical tastes vary between tech house, electro house, progressive, and minimalist sounds, while his sets take an eclectic journey through all of the darker shades of house music. His style is both technical and experimental, and what he plays for a crowd always proves to be unique and infectious.

Music has always been the forefront of Steve Edwards' life. Steve spent countless hours as a kid listening to dusty LPs of Michael Jackson and the Monkees. He made the change from being a listening bystander to an active participant in music when his dad gave him a bass guitar for his ninth birthday. For the next several years, Steve played in a few jazz, funk and punk bands and started building his appreciation for obscure music. His early musical influences include a variety of artists, from jazz bassist Victor Wooten to punk rockers the Descendants, and everything in between. The styles that were most prevalent were jazz, new wave, punk rock, and industrial music. You can see much of this imprinted in what Steve Edwards plays and produces today.

Steve's first introduction to electronic music came in Houston in 1991, when he visited a friend who owned DJ equipment. Amazed by the grinding techno styles of the early 90s, he wanted to try for himself. He began with a mish-mash of music including everything from dancehall to drum and bass to hardcore. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Colorado and his musical tastes were refined to progressive house music. He quickly earned a residency at The Underground in Colorado Springs, which afforded him the opportunity to start exploring the abstruse sounds of tech house. Steve then moved to Phoenix and brought his musical tastes with him. Many of these sounds were new to the valley's EDM community, and they welcomed this new dance music with open arms.

Steve Edwards currently plays at many clubs and electronic music events in the Phoenix valley, spreading his love for his unique style of music to the masses. When he's not playing for a crowd full of techno heads, he's in the studio recording mixes for his podcast or searching for new tracks for his next mix. His work has been featured on Frisky Radio (www.friskyradio.com), Proton Radio (www.protonradio.com), and Freakin' Radio (www.freakin.org), drawing scores of listeners worldwide. He has released tracks on Queep Organic House, Biohazard Digital, Xela Digital, Bit Records Mexico, and Binge Records and has recently played at Spundae and Funxtion Fridays in Hollywood.
