Review of SoulBrew Easter Party wt Danny Krivit
Wow!

Well what a night. Our first night at a brand new venue always raises some concerns and jitters (especially when sound check visits involved dodging paint balls and a porn shoot!!) but the Electrowerkz venue worked like a dream for what was undoubtedly our best SoulBrew party yet so thanks to those of you who made it down and joined in the drama!!

Good music's good music and for me it's nice to go out and be able to hear a mixture of music from across the board in different rooms when I go to a club, and it's been something that we've really been trying to do for a while with the SoulBrew parties.

A great multi cultural London crowd of up for it party people filled the club and everyone was clearly in the mood to drink and dance which made for a fantastic atmosphere and over three floors the DJs were superb all night long. Starting with a set from Neil Maclean from the fantastic Emotive night in Southampton taking us from Rolling Stones re-edits to boogie classics and some of the finest new beats to get the early crowd going in the bottom floor. When Ian Dewhirst - Mastercuts head honcho and a man with a SERIOUS record collection - stepped up the crowd were in full flow and a lovely set ranging from the obvious to a few Im never likely to hear again but always keeping it funky and the dancefloor stomping. Then was then left to Yam Who? to join the dots and keep the girls out on the floor until close down which he did with aplomb (and Red Stripe).

A personal high point of the night was the manager telling me that someone had hired in a green laser for the saturday night & we could use that. So from 2am till close Yam Who tonked out some disco and boogie mixed up with some of their latest joints to a dancefloor lit by a mid 90s rave green laser. Other than the flashbacks it was quite simply amazing!! Although I did have to dash across the dancefloor to stop the manager then plugging it in for Danny's last few tunes upstairs - after Danny had requested the house lights be turned on!!

In the middle room SoulBrew All Stars DJ Spin Doctor & Andy Bird covered the early slot and then took a step back to look in the mirror and enjoy the monster that they had created leaving funksters Mr Thing and later the one and only DJ Vadim (celebrating his BBE album release) to get the crowd bouncing to some of the finest block rocking party hip hop and funk.

When the top floor opened (for the geeks replete with a Urei Rotary 1620LE mixer and fresh from the production line an brand spanking new Bozak isolator) it's fair to say that the sound system was sounding loud and crisp. And clearly met the high standards of Danny Krivit who was loving it!!! I have heard Danny play when he;s not been happy and he is one DJ who's mood really will affect his performance. But I thought we really got the best out of him and he played a simply stunning set incorporating disco, african infused tracks, house, broken beat bits, some classics and then a selection of delightful soul music to end the night. Having wanted to book him for years, the man really did not disappoint with his selection.

And 10/10 for effort - bringing across the atlantic with him two massive bags of records, and about 2000 cds!! And I also have to add that he was the only DJ I think I have ever booked who hasn't pushed the system too loud at some point in his set - a consummate pro!

The cinema room was a success showing Ferris Bueller, Fletch and later on some vintage Russ Meyer porn in the shape of Mondo Topless and Beneath the Valey of the Super Vixens which certainly raised a few eyebrows... I love it! A big thanks must also go to Ben Chapman (BBE) on warm up duties. I personally know it can be tough getting the balance right and he didn't once lose his cool even when the crowd started to build up waiting for DK to start. In fact I'd go as far as saying he played his best tracks / mixes when the pressure was on so nice one fella!

A big thanks must go to Paul @ Bozak for coming down and sorting Danny out with a simply fantastic Bozak isolator to use, and to my flatmate Jason for driving Danny to Manchester at 11am the following morning!!
