Id Cards Yes or No ?
Read this on another thread and as always i like to have a lovely political debate on a friday morning to get those brain cells flowing ready for the weekend!!!

Whats your thoughts on ID cards?

Are they for our own protection? oe societys protection?

Or are we to become a futuristic society where we can be located at any time any where?

ID cards are going to be enforced NEXT year

the proposed ID Card Scheme states that:

You will: Attend appointment to be photographed have your fingerprints taken and iris scanned or be fined £2500. Additional fines of £2500 may be levied each time you fail to comply until you submit.

You will: Promptly inform the police if you lose your card or it becomes defective, or you will have committed a criminal offence and face a fine and/or up to 51 weeks imprisonment

You will: Promptly inform the national identity register of significant changes to your personal life or face a fine up to £1000. You may also be obliged to submit to being re-interviewed, re-photographed, re-fingerprinted and re-scanned, or face a fine.

You will: Pay between £30 and £93 to be registered

You will: be prevented from renting or selling a home or staying in a hotel. We won't be able to buy a car or a mobile phone open or use a bank account, travel, register with a doctor get education, work or run a business (officially), live or (officially) die.

The House of Lords rejected this 5 times before they compromised.

Be as open as you wish :)

Hi

Just joined,

Id card, Oh well where do I start, Personally I don’t agree with all the fines and such like but on the other hand I am feel britain is being filled with illegal immagrants and annoys me cos it put such a burden on our resources so basically if u had to card to anything would be better, Yeah It is a big brother thing but with amount of cctv camera, loyalty card (basically used to track what u buy) there is no getting away from it,

Welcome Tyron :) x

Its a difficult one init , i for one feel if it reduces the amount of illegals we have in this country then im all for it , and lets be honest we have made ourselves wide open and have a fair few and youre right they are draining our resources i feel england can bare enough look after its own let alone help others.

Thats a very good point - I hadn't thought of it like that.

That aside - I don't agree with ID cards, Yes, they may have benifits, like cracking down on illegal immigrants, but at the cost of our personal freedom.

Do you remember watching those 'dry' war films where some stiff neck russian or german would say..'hey..where are you going..show me your i.d.'?

That's what comes to mind for me, its a good thing as Ty sez, and its a bad thing like Mae points out, dosent really matter tho, its here and it will get worse, as these things are an introduction to other clampdowns.

My op..

(damn..im being grown up n sensible for once!) Lol

eek prepare for rant...

rant incoming...

3,2,1,...

I'll go to gaol before carrying an id card. I think I speak for an awful lot of people when I say that this government can just F U C K O F F and gets its nose out of my life.

I cannot think of one single advantage of an ID card. Exactly how an ID card will prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country I don't know - by definition, illegal immigrants are already here. Anyway, our [sarcasm] wonderful and useful and symbiotic [/sarcasm] membership of the EU means that our borders are effectively open to all-comers regardless, so very few of the immigrants clogging up our once beautiful island are actually illegals. But turning the attention to illegals is a good diversionary tactic by the government so that their true intentions, (nefarious and sinister) can be kept hidden.

'if you've nothing to hide you've nothing to fear' in defence the ID card is a load of blatant bollocks - it abandons the fundamental presumption of innocence. I don't want to live in a police state, nor do I want my little girl to grow up in one!

One good thing, though, it will never get off the ground anyway, we have an astoundingly bad track record in large projects (Millenium Dome, New Wembley, NHS IT systems etc etc) that cost shed loads of money and do fuck all - this government seems to consist entirely of people who couldn't poor piss out of a shoe if you printed instructions on the heel, so really, we have nothing to fear anyway!

here endeth the rant.

Good call with the political debate stoking sweetie!!

My feeling is if we have to have them then we have to !! basically we havent got a choice !

I sure as hell would rather carry and ID card than risk being stuck in prison with a load of big bolshy lesbians waiting to abuse the fuck out of my fanny for a laugh!!

What i dont agree with is us having to pay for it ? what happens to those on low incomes or benifits? Do they have to pay between £30-£93 to get registered? , fuck me does that mean for me Dubya and the two trolls its gonna cost us anything between £120 - £372 to get registered with this ID card thing?
