Tocadisco goes Kissdafunk in Ibiza

This article is about Kissdafunk at Kanya Beach @ Kanya in Ibiza (Spain), Mon 31 Jul 2006

Tocadisco is one of Germany's best producers. The remixer behind Mylo's "Muscle Car" he's worked with some of the coolest and more credible artists of our time. Fischerspooner, Deep Dish, Sono, New Order and The Pet Shop Boys are just a few. It's not often we get to hear his talents in the UK; but if you're heading out to Ibiza this summer you may be lucky enough to catch him at Kissdafunk's Monday residency at The White Isle newest and coolest venue: The NEW Kanya Beach.

You've recently had some massive tracks remixes including New
Order, Deep Dish, 'Muscle Car' for Mylo and 'Minimal' for The Pet Shop Boys. What are you working on at the moment that you want to plug?

Well, I'm still working on my album. It's gonna be more of a ‘listening
album though. Not an album with 12 dance tracks. I'm gathering some singers around me and we are writing songs at the moment. It will probably be the end of the year before it’s finished.

I’ve also recently done a remix for my friends Sono where I had the pleasure to remix one of their greatest hits ‘Keep Control”. I’ve also recently worked together with Fischerspooner on a remix for
remix for my friends Sono. I had the pleasure to remix one of the
greatest hits "keep control". And I worked together with Fischerspooner on a remix if Etienne Daho's - "Tombe La France". On top of all that I’ve and just finished a remix for the label Mantra Vibes. All in all I’m very busy.

Apart from Kissdafunk in Ibiza, what other great parties are you
looking forward to playing in the summer?

I’m playing at the Fusion Festival in Germany which is my all time
favourite festival. That's gonna be my highlight this summer.

You're from Cologne in Germany. What is the club scene like over there? If I was there for the weekend, where would you recommend that I go?

In Cologne it's all about secret parties in different locations. All
the big clubs suck. It’s the small bars and clubs which
play the best music. If you came down I would recommend
either the "Muschi Club" parties, or the "Loonyland" ... I'm
resident at those two...

You've been involved in the music scene since about 1996, but can you remember the last time you went to a club or disco just for fun?

Oh, I go all the time! I love the nighlife , and I love to party...

You're worked with some pretty impressive names; but who would you say you're influences were?

I'm influenced by everyone and no-one. I get bored really easily so
I'm always trying to find new music. That's what I love about djing, almost everything is constantly changing.

Can you remember what inspired you to be turn to DJing and making music?

I’ve been into music since I was a child. I didn't "choose" music, music "choose" me... My love for music has always been there. I had no other choice other than letitng it out! ;-) I played in a lot of bands. But it sucks to rely on other people that are just wanna do music as a hobby. For me it was always my life. Being a Dj and Producer gives me all the freedom I can get. I just have to rely on myself...

Were you a natural at it?

I play a lot of instruments but the only instrument that I learnt from
a teacher was the drums. The rest I taught the rest myself. If I wanna learn something I just do it. I'm not very good with people like teachers telling what to do.

It's a tough world for budding producers to get noticed; but
you've managed to become successful. What tips do you have for new and young producers?

The only thing I can say that it wasn't my aim to become successful. I
just do what I love. There’s a lot of people that just do music because
of money, success or whatever. If you don't love music don't do
music. For me that makes no sense. It has to be something to do with the soul, spirit and fun. That's at least why I do it...

Germany has a reputation for building some pretty desirable cars. What is your favourite type of car and what do you drive at the
moment?

I don't have a car, because I live in Cologne and you don’t really need
one. But I love Mercedes, BMWs and Audis. My favourite car of all
time is a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback

We live in a day full of technology. What is your current
favourite gadget and why?

Yeah., I'm Mr "BoysToys" I love always to get the latest stuff! I have too I love my Mac Laptops!!

Where is your favourite place in the world?
Home

What food do you like to eat; and do you have a favourite place to
eat?

I love Italian and Spanish food. There are some really nice restaurants here in Cologne...

What do you like to do to relax?

I love movies. I have a big DVD collection and I go to the cinemas
all the time...

What is your motto?

Rock on...

Was in Berlin earlier this year & caught this guy at Sage Club. AWESOME SET! Only his Last half an hour was the big tracks that everyone knew but it was thumping the whole way through. When he says he likes to party - he means it! Go see Tocadisco play if you have half the chance. Germans know how to kick it!
