MADRID ARENA
The Municipal Company Campo de las Naciones has developed the plan to renovate what was popularly known as the "Rockódromo" of Madrid, now called the Madrid Arena due to its defining characteristics, from start to finish:
It is a state-of-the-art multi-use pavilion whose vanguard design, functional character and technology combine to endow the City of Madrid with a multi-functional area that is designed to efficiently cater for large events (sporting, business, cultural and leisure) that, in conjunction with the top quality services available, guarantee the success of any event.
The Madrid Arena, located in the Casa de Campo Convention Centre and just a few minutes away from the city centre, has several magnificent facilities, while its retractable tiers mean that the total surface area of the centre court can be altered. It also has an auxiliary pavilion, and is connected to the Glass Pavilion via an underground tunnel.
The pavilion's oval roof is spectacular. In this space, design, functional character and technology combine to form a unique top-class site, which is the ideal place to hold large sports events, concerts, shows and fairs.
Madrid Arena's facade has been built as a double curve, made out of glass, which has variable transparency and is extremely light, in order to enhance the area under the roof. Its enormous dome can support, if necessary, large loads if the technical requirements for the assembly of an event demand it. It is a building that is in the vanguard, that has now assured its place as the venue for one of the most important tennis tournaments in the world: the Madrid Master Series that in the last three consecutive tournaments held in this building has played host to over 300,000 people; 104,600 attending the 2004 tournament.
