This August bank holiday sees the return of S.N.O.G. fest, North Wales’ community arts festival event, to Hendre Hall. The event, organized by the Snowdonia Nights Out Group (note the cunning acronym), will bring together some of Wales and the World’s best musicians, artists, poets, performers and other amusing attractions. With live music stages across the venue, S.N.O.G. fest 08 will feature performances from local, national and international favorites.

On Sunday 24th the Re-PLAY Music Cymru Stage (supported by Community Music Wales) features headline act Rodney Brannigan, whose ‘one man, two guitars’ performance is proving a perennial favourite with North Wales audiences. Rodney is returning to Wales as part of his national tour, following a successful international tour.

The Re-Play Music Cymru stage also offers you one of the last chances to see Genod Droog play live, and sees the launch of their new album. Other acts appearing on the Sunday include: Rhian Mostyn, Colobos, Velkro Bomb, Camera, Heldinki, Sarah Louise, Jonny Horizontal, Yr Ods, The Janx and Yucatan. Guest DJ’s, Jah Mary Shack Soundsystems, Kaim, Christian, Natty Mark and Magnumquilter will also be playing.

On Saturday 23rd the main stage is hosting a line-up of popular bands from Colwyn Bay and beyond, namely: LR Rockets, Lantern, Global Parasite, Stopouts, Doormat Antics, Upstarts, Dandylion Killers, Fides, Deadlight Spiral, Prestige and Celeriac.

The S.N.O.G. Acoustic Stage will be running on both Saturday and Sunday, with performances from Wil Willaims, Dr Jay Trio, John Lawrence, Endaf Presley, Jez Hooligan, Nia Morgan, The Good Captain and John Steele on Saturday. On the Sunday, Pondman, Dan Amor, The Rice Hooligan Orchestra, Emma Black, Stacey Cohen, Zack & Simon and Jackie & Friends

Also on the Sunday, Blipfonica will be providing experimental electronica, featuring performances from Gorwel and Fiona Owen, Chapparel Andrew Hodges, Cyrion, Gimp Nipples, DJ Banwan Brown, The Blah Saying Squid and a Chip musical special featuring laren, Hurrigame Boy and IOH

Other features:

The Articipate Collective will be filling the walls of the venue with an exhibition of contemporary art, including work by Femke Van Gente, Steve Pablo, Roy Strong and Sharon Crewe. The show opens at 8pm on Friday the 22nd, where visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the artwork to musical accompaniment by the Stacey Cohen Trio and Edd Gun and the Big. The exhibition will be open throughout the weekend, culminating in an art-auction on Sunday evening, bidding starts at 5pm. Articipate will also be bringing art off-the-walls with a series of interactive installations and free workshops by local artists across the site, meaning visitors won’t just be looking at art, but experiencing and creating it.

More visitor participation and amusement will be provided by RE-PLAY Music Cymru, with free drumming, strings and singing workshops for kids and adults.

The Forest School tent will run environmental activities for children in the Green Field, alongside the Lawrence Music sustainably powered stage, Olive Grooves Chai Tent and Secret Cinema.

Local dressing up phenomenon ‘GetDressedUp’ will be returning to S.N.O.G. (one year on from where it all started…) and will be on hand all weekend to answer the biggest question of them all ‘what am I going to wear?!’

A Poetry Stage will also be running throughout the festival, including performances by SLAM champion Sophia, the ‘armchair anarchist’ Sophie McKeand, Mr Phormula and popular local poet Martin Daws, who is cutting short his run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to perform at S.N.O.G. and host a performance poetry workshop on Sunday afternoon.
