What we got up to on our travels... part two
Just another quick update on our travels, now we are two weeks in... two more to go!!

Our second week in Borneo was even more amazing than the first. We went to Poring Hot Spings which was set in this beautiful national park at the foot hills of Mount Kinabalu (highest mountian in South East Asia). We bathed in the natural hot springs and took in our surroundings... huge bamboo growing everywhere, waterfalls, rainforest trees and plants we'd never seen before, so so lush :)

we got chatting to some people at Poring who had just climbed the mountain and although we didnt really intend to do it ourselves we just couldnt pass up the opportunity! 13,500ft so a massive challenge but we thought we'd give it a go. Turned out to be about the best thing i've ever done in my life! it took two days and was very tough at times and not to mention scary when we were scrambling up parts that had very sheer drops!! the first day was long and tiring. then when we reached 11,000ft we stopped at the rest house for dinner and tried to get some sleep. the final climb to the top started the next morning at 2.30am by torchlight all the way so that we could see the sun rise form the top. the most amazing views ive ever seen without doubt. totally worth it. our legs ached for about 4 days after though!

from kinabalu we travelled down to Brunei and saw the magnificent Sultan's Palace and golden domed mosques. it was quite a developed city and was interesting to see. the atmosphere was electric at night as the city were preparing for the Sultan's birthday. we also took a boat tour round the stilt villages where 30,000 of the locals live in stilt houses built on to the sea. they've even got schools, fire stations and boat petrol stations all built on stilts!!

after Brunei we hopped on a flight to Indonesia and thats where we are now... relaxing in Bali. This place is so so cheap and has a great back packing community. going to check out the night life tonight and spend a good few days here on the beach before heading to the sights of java.

hope all is well with everyone back home

love darren and carl xx
