Super8 & Tab Promo Mix and Interview ahead of this Saturday

Leading the charge of the Nordic trance revolution are meet Finland’s Miika Eloranta & Janne Mansnerus… better know respectively as Super8 & Tab. Up until 2005 Miika & Janne were busy pursuing their own individually successful recording careers, but after a chance meeting resulted in the hugely successful collaboration projects 'First Aid' and 'Helsinki Scorchin' the prolific partnership was born. In Tab’s own words: "creating music became double the fun as a partnership."

You’ve just completed your first tour of Australia together, tell us a little more about it………
Well we had been waiting for the right moment to do a tour of Oz and you could not get any better than this! Future Music Festival is the biggest you can get – maybe biggest in the world!?! Production is just huge in 5 different cities. So we were very pleased to be part of this and have to say we really loved the whole tour, all the events were just incredible.

Your Hallmark night in Finland celebrated its 9th birthday recently, how did it go?
We had a brand new luxury venue so exceptions where really high.
Playing for a long time in Helsinki, sold out event, Hallmark, 9th birthday, lots of friends, drinks, hand in the air… Dj Orkidea warmed up the crowd nicely and we played the last 3 hours. We are planning to return to this venue sometime again but no dates are set yet so keep looking on the Hallmark web site for latest news – highly recommend to visit if you are ever in Helsinki!

Can you think of your most memorable Hallmark event or just something that has stuck in your mind from over the years?
Hallmark: Has to be the first one when we started it 9 years ago… we knew that people were interested but never believed it would sell out right away. We have also changed the venue a couple times and this last move was easily one of the best we have made. Other event: there are too many and not enough time to tell all of the good stories but to name one would be when we were headlining at Philipphines with 4 hour set for 4000 people – that was unreal!

How did you two meet and where did the names come from?
We have known each other from clubbing in Helsinki some time before we moved to the same studio complex. However, it took some time before we started to work together.

Janne: I first played with DJ Tapi name for sometime – Tapi has been my nick name since I was 5 years. But I got my current DJ name when I played one illegal after party in Helsinki around ’97. Promoter was thinking that Tapi wasn’t cool enough so he put DJ Tab on flyer.

Miika: I did a remix for first Aalto track and had to figure out a name for it. James from Anjunabeats was calling that they need the name as vinyls was going for printing. I watched some documentary of 70’s movies and they used a lot Super8 film on them… I thought to use that name just for fun but after Paul van Dyk was playing the remix for over a year on every gig there didn’t seem much point returning to any other name after ?

Who’s got the funniest nicknames?
Will let you guys decide!?!?!

I know your remix of Ferry’s ‘Made Of Love’ has just been released, any more productions/albums in the pipeline?
We are working on an album at the moment but we don’t want to put any pressure on it. So released date will be when it’s done… hopefully sometime later this year. We have some good collabationss and plenty of tracks done but let’s see how the final product will sound like. We will keep you posted!

In your biog you refer to your sound as ‘idiosyncratic Scando-Trance’ that’s quite an interesting phrase to say the least, how would you say your sound differs from others?
Do we? Where we say that? Haha..anyways – we try to sound a little bit different and taking a lot of influences from different kind of music no matter if its techno, trance, electro, rock, or hmmm… you name it! I think our cold dark winter days and long bright summer days are a big influence in our music making

With the sheet amount of social networking sites, online portals and also the easy access to production software these days it is almost impossible to make yourself stand out from the next person, do you think this will enable a lot of younger DJs to get the recognition they perhaps wouldn’t have beforehand or do you think it hinders the more talented DJs out there by saturating the scene with too many people?
Production wise - It will always come back to the original thing – the music. It’s true that these days it is a lot easier to get your tracks out there but the original product must be good to get people’s attention. We think that will never change.

When it comes to DJing – is it a lot harder these days - You have know the right tools to get your name out there, prove your skills to promoters, do something different than other DJ’s do - but isn’t it been like this all the time? These days it is a lot easier to do some things than 10 or even 20 years ago but some things are harder. For example if you don’t know how build a web site you can ask a help from your friends… I think its just that you keep doing your own thing and see how it pays off – It might not happened in one day but no need to rush something you love to do.

Do you ever find it weird hearing other people playing your tracks? When was the first time this happened?
It’s an honour if someone is playing our tracks. It’s great to see people reactions. Can’t remember when and where first time was but it was a loooong time a go!

Finally……the DJ before you has completely lot the dancefloor, what is the one track you play that is always guaranteed to get the party started again?
Celine Dion – My Heart Will Go On – of course! hahahah
