The first Bank Holiday celebration of May gathers even more impetus with the huge announcements surrounding Gibb Sts latest forays into the world of house music. The nations leading dance music magazine Mixmag are teaming up with the original superclub Ministry of Sound and Birmingham party curators extraordinaire Rocknrolla, and together they get a smorgasbord of talent that showcases the more immediate aspects of modern house music.
First up for the showcase is none other than Fedde le Grand, the Dutch tycoon who got the world putting their hands up for Detroit back in 2007 and hasnt stopped making them move ever since. His unmistakeable brand of hip shuffling grooves and instantly lovable hooks has marked him out as one of the true leaders in his field, with patronage coming from everywhere within the scene. Whether headlining New Yorks spellbinding musical sensation The Cosmic Opera or ensnaring awards at the WMC, Fedde remains a prize draw everywhere from Ibiza to Indonesia and looks set to tear Gibb St form limb to limb.
Next up is the local-boy-done-good, Micky Slim, alongside MC Majestic. West Midlands through and through, Micky has since gone on to take over the world with his in-yer-face style of hedonistic party music. His versatility means hes equally at home dropping filth laden house grooves as he is UK Garage; check out the killer production he affords Majestics homage to the old school Lets Go Back. Majestic will be playing as part of Mickys show, adding an undeniable swagger to the rump shaking beats dripping through the Gibb St Soundsystem.
Then there is Will Bailey, another stalwart repping the West Midlands and taking over the world with his dirt encrusted funk. Alongside Mickey he has built the Rocknrolla brand up readily and quickly, sharing his knowledge ascertained form taking his own riotous mix of bass music, electro and house across the globe. Rue Jay, Alex Schmitz and Marc Spence complete the bill in the main room, whilst midweek house music heroes Spin host proceedings in the second room.
