It is hardly surprising that the Nightingale Club Ltd has been the enduring feature at the forefront of Birmingham’s gay club scene for many years. In fact, the Gale’s (the name of familiarity) consistent endurance through a demanding and volatile industry has been significantly due to its incredible ability to evolve and innovate, this in response to ever changing moods, attitudes and trends. A unique managed business that is owned by its members, approximately 600, where all of the profits are reinvested into the business. So taking all this into account and keeping in with the philosophy, the Gale (which is 35 years old and in it’s 4th location) recently undergone a ¾ million redevelopment to set a president for future clubbing.
The Gale, known as the heart of the gay community, is situated within the centre of Birmingham’s ‘Gay Village’ (yes, there is one and it’s huge). Standing proud and with a capacity of almost 2000 it is incredibly difficult to resist the temptation that is the Nightingale. Renown for being a leader in supplying quality entertainment it’s no surprise to hear that legendary artistes such as Boney M, the Three Degrees, Brotherhood of Man and Boy Zone have all appeared. Retro artistes have seen Fragma, Phats & Small, DB Boulevard, Kelly Lorena and Ultrabeat amongst others. Now, as a venue with an incredible entertainment reputation recent artists have included: Holly Valance, Alex Parks, Jamelia, Javine, D-Side, Phixx, Abs and many more! Any self-respecting club has to lead the way with daring and precautious DJ’s as a matter of ritual; this is no exception at the Gale. A breeding ground for talent this club has seen the likes of the legendary Tony Devit (10 year residency) and hard house master Andy Farley. Present day residencies include the impressive Simon Baker, Simon H and the very talented Corey (an amazing girl) with guest sets from the UK's best talent and local stations such as Galaxy and BRMB (Capital) too!

Set over 3 floors this venue gives something for everyone, yes everyone. There are two entrances for the ground floor, one for the bar that brings you into the sunken seating area and one for the club. This one brings you into the newly extended part of the building encompassing reception and cloakroom area. The ground floor is huge and encompasses two designer bars, the main dancefloor, stage area, raised mezzanine floor and a rather stylish and comfortable sunken leather seating area. The two latter comfortably look out over the busy Kent St. allowing for evening viewing pleasures before the blinds come down for the nighttime operation. Accessible from the ground floor is the garden, this wide area of wooden man made architecture is perfect for early evening meals, chillin with friends or just taking in air. The 1st floor is a favourite for many featuring a restaurant, a pool & video area, a piano lounge and a café bar with swanky leather sofas, chunky tables and big leather stools. From the café bar you step out onto a new feature, a unique external cantilevered balcony that stretches the length of the club and overlooks the whole of Kent St. Finally, the 2nd (top) floor never escaped a re-design either. This room, like the rest of the club, has expanded in size. The dancefloor now sits proudly in the centre of the room and radiates with impressive lighting features and awesome JBL sound. Another designer bar takes its place as a corner feature and ample room for circulation comfortably enables you to travel around this room and even watch the DJ perform his magic (or hers). Finally, also on the ground floor, an outdoor garden is the well-kept secret that always manages to impress all who are greeted with its splendour. Beautiful wooden craftsmanship, designer plants, shrubs & trees and art décor lighting provide an ideal chill out area day or night. Rain or shine this area is available as motorised canopies protect you from the elements and an immediate staircase directs you to any of the 3 floors.
See you there!
