Following his recent, blinding set at the Southport Weekender, Days Like This are pleased to welcome Zed Bias ( Sick Trumpet ) alongside Carlos Vargas ( Deep and Soul Project, Portugal ) and residents Gary Ward, Charles John & DJ Euge. Its also Gary's birthday so we'll be getting right on it !

Dave Jones is Zed Bias – hailing from deep within the UK dance music scene and causing a stir since the mid-90’s as a globetrotting DJ, pioneering producer, label chief, re-mixer & Jedi master of everything soulful. At times he has variously been known as Maddslinky, Phuturistix and a host of other production and writing aliases. This is not a ruse designed to confuse audiences (or global law enforcement agencies) it is merely a practical necessity to accommodate this mans incredibly prolific output.

As an Artist he gained widespread recognition in 2001 when he was nominated for “Best Garage Act” at the MOBO awards – by way of the single “Neighbourhood” (XL Recordings), which reached number 25 in the UK national charts. After several years hard graft this success opened the floodgates, bringing a publishing deal with EMI and work alongside the biggest artists of that time, including Miss Dynamite and Amy Winehouse . Having already set the blueprint for the darker UK Garage sound in the late 90’s, he also started to infuse a more soulful, even jazzier element to some tracks and was ultimately asked to mix the definitive “Sounds of the Pirates” compilation whilst also supplying remixes for superstars like Whitney Houston and Destiny’s Child, chart-toppers Gabrielle and Kosheen as well as popular crossover heroes including The Streets.

His intuitive ability to work and collaborate on various levels and across many genres remains in great demand from labels and artists all over the world, but the caliber of his own writing and production cannot be overlooked. The new material takes on many different forms but always manages to carry that unmistakable Zed Bias flavour. This diversity draws directly from his long, illustrious career and is both testament to his unbelievable talent and the truest possible representation of his journey to date. Don’t take my word for it - check “Experiments with Biasonics – Vol.1” (Sick Trumpet – Nov 2007) or any DJ gig for proof. Also look out for forthcoming future DubStep classics on SIDESTEPPER, house anthems on various labels and not forgetting the now cult-status ZEDCAST series via his MySpace page.

Zed has been a pioneer of UK urban and other dance music since day one, both as artist and producer (it’s no surprise that the cream of the DubStep scene quote Zed as one of the founding fathers), but 2008 looks set to further elevate his reputation with yet more quality music backed up by unforgettable performances. Remixes such as “Every Step” for Tawiah, “Go Get It” by Sepalot and self-penned gems like “Hiding Place” (with Tawiah), “The Cauldron” feat. Jay Electronica, “The Breakdown” with Broke’N’English and “The Sound of Love” with Phil Asher, Jenna G, DRS & Cherie Mathieson "Keep on Pushin" (with Fyza) – are all set to re-establish Zed Bias as the hot ticket across the board. Just ask the crowd at the recent Southport Weekender, regulars at Forward in London or anyone who caught the New Bohemia launch at Cargo in March – quality like this never goes out of fashion.
