HARD HOUSE WHERE IT ALL STARTED!

This article is about SLEEP WALK presents BEN STEVENS @ SNEAK (Dragon Eye) in Birmingham (UK), Sun 30 Nov 2008

For many years Birmingham has been the backbone to the UK’s Hard House Scene since the early days of Sundissential and the true legend Mr Tony De Vit. There has always been a strong following for the Hard Energetic sound and over the years some of the best Hard House DJ’s have progressed from the midlands such as Tony De Vit, Andy Farley, Lisa Lashes and Ian M to name but a few.

This strong passion and desire for the music has is shown by the fact that Sundissential one of the original pioneers in hard house clubbing enters into its 12 year with other brands still going strong such as Storm & Polysexual proving that the love and desire for this music is still there with its underground following.

In 1999 Tom Muir, a regular face at Sheffields already growing Super Club Gatecrasher was a key figure in creating the Cyber Revolution that was know as the Crasher Kids. Tom and his followers never wanted to stop partying and Hard house was starting to grow with Sundissential & Sundissential North becoming a regular fixture in clubbers diaries across the country. Slowly but surely Hard House was starting to creep into the lives of clubbers that for so long had only known what they had heard at there much loved Gatecrasher or Gods Kitchen & Slinky.

I don’t know if it was because Tom got sick of people using his house as a stomping ground or the drive back was just to much for their next infusion of much loved dance music, but Insomniacz was born! It then became a haven for people to continue their nights experience and create new ones, with music that was fresh, interesting & fun. When clubbers thought they were all danced out and had nothing left to give the Harder more energetic sounding music seemed to bring people back to life and start everything all over again.

Insomniacz turned after parties into its own After Hours Club with a selection of DJs that all had their unique sound and style keeping the experience fresh all the time. It also pushed and helped develop the careers of some of the biggest DJs we know in Hard House today such as Vicious Circles Paul Glazby & Elasticmans Ilogik. Both have exiled to become icons not just in Hard House but the dance Music Industry.

In 2002 Insomniacz set sail and moved to one of Birmingham's new venues and home of Godskitchen, Code. This was also the origin of Polysexual which still livs there to this day, but now under the new venue name of Air. This excelled Birmingham’s Hard House scene from where most feel was one of the places it originated from.

Now six years on After Hours clubs are now few and far between with only Twist in London really setting the bench mark for hard house market, until now………..

Sunday 30th November sees the launch of Birmingham’s After Hours Revaluation ‘Sleep Walk’. Situated at the top of Broad Street is Sneak a perfect venue for anyone wanting to continue the party on. Not every one will want to stomp for hours some will just want to chill and remains on the shenanigans of the previous evening’s events. So with a comfy environment as well as hardcore stomping ground Sleep Walk becomes the perfect place for any clubber to continue there night out and clubbing experience.

ive just done a genre study on hardhouse/tony de vit for my hnd music production course.if anyone wants a read of my shortened down version i will gladly email them it,it explains alot.who put Lisa pin up down as a pioneer is wrong,to be fair its an insult really.she may have been the one who you recognize as the pioneer but it all started around 1990's when tony got his 1st slot at trade where he filled in for smoking Jo.from then on he was resident there, in 1992 he met Simon Parke's started producing tracks an created the sound we all know to be hardhouse.clubs like suni's did have a major part in the scene, but the music was there long before and was there because of tony de vit.

yes it was there because of Tony Ve Vit he was also resident for sunnis and helped bring it through to the main stream!

Before the likes of Sundissential and insomniacz there was the odd hard house dj on the main stage but it was mainly underground and i personally thing this is pivotal point.

pivotal point.

very true Steve, but hardhouse was out there before suni's. way before.tony was banging out his hard stuff years before at cream in ibiza and all over the world he was a regular remixer for the cream albums aswell as the trade compilations.

I know i probably know more about it all than most what i'm trying to explain is how hard house suddenly took of and was appriciated by a wider audience!

BAck then it wasnt hard hous e as we t was just house that was harder with DJs like Tall Paul playing a tougher cheekier side of things but when hard house became a stand alone thing was through Sundissential and insomniacz the origin came from Trade and developed.
