We caught up with the main man Jus' Phil before he debute at BLUE - Subway City on Saturday 7th July... Check out what he had to say:
DR: Firstly, we’re looking forward for you to play at the launch of the new tech room @ Subway City; Is it you’re first visit to Birmingham and what are you expecting from us Brummies?
JP: No I lived there back in 99 for a few yrs so i know how crazy you Brummies are ;-)
DR:You worked for the technics DJ for over 5 years, are there any successful DJ’s that you can turn around and say you taught them every thing they know?
JP: Taylor Leigh (Goodgreef), Andro (Warehouse Project), Rachel Barton who is doin really well on the london scene and is also Pete Tong Radio 1 producer and Cesco & Picrudo from Italy watch out for these Dj's....
DR: So you and Fergie have been working in together for a while now, how did you meet and how much influence has he had on you music?
JP: Me and Ferg met in 97 at Sundissential and we have been best friends ever since. Me and Ferg are very similar and it all started wen he took me to Trade at Turnmills for the first time that had a big influence on me.
DR: How would you describe the music that you playing at the moment?
JP: Groovy, Dirty, Pumpin house/tech music with lots of effects :-)
DR: Your productions are sounding wicked at the moment, different from what everyone else is doing; what can we expect from you and your label Monu-Mental records in the future?
DR: We got loads of stuff comin up from Alive & R.A.W myself n Cesco, and some other projects that I cant talk about yet but watch this space ;-) I have a Jus Phil VIP EP coming out on PunchFunk in a month or so, so watch out for that one also...
DR: Your uncle ran the door at the legendary Hacienda night club in Manchester, which I’m sure you’ve heard loads of stories about, would you say this played a major part in you becoming a DJ?
JP: Yes my uncle Brian R.I.P. My uncle always had a story to tell but theres far too many to go through lol From bein around the age of 10 Bri would bring me home mix tapes that the djs gave to him which really made my day every sunday.....
DR: What’s your greatest moment in club land?
JP: For me theres 2, walkin into Trade for the first time and last yr at Coocoon in ibiza seein Sven Vath was unreal...
DR: What’s your worst?
JP: N/A I always have a good time :-)
DR: Who would you like to play along side?
JP: At the moment defo Luciano what a dj.....
DR: What was the first record you brought?
JP: Chad Jackson - Hear The Drummer Get Wicked, I was only 7 at the time what a track Chad's from Manchester which makes it even better ;-)
DR: What’s your poison – I’m buying?
JP: Haha dont know if i can say it on here ;-) Vodka Vodka Vodka
DR: Jordon or Jodie Marsh?
JP: Jordon
