ADAM DEUCE: You’ve been involved in the entertainment business for some 20 odd years. You were a member of UTAH SAINTS, helped set up KISSFM in the North & appeared on Top Of The Pops as DOPE SMUGGLAZ amongst many other varied projects not least the phenomenon that was NASTYDIRTYSEXMUSIC. Were you daunted by moving on from NDSM at the height of its success or do you thrive on the thrill & challenge of starting new projects?
TIM SHERIDAN: To be honest it's very unusual to stay in exactly the same position all your life. Even relatively stable jobs involve promotions and moves. I deliberately killed off NDSM exactly to stop the stagnation that was already happening. Once you become fashionable there will always be a point where you become unfashionable eventually, or at the very least a parody of yourself. Nastydirty was Ministry's biggest night in it's history... but I agreed to take it there from ibiza because they agreed to make it cheaper and help us give free gifts and let in half the people for free. That good will started to peter out as well as success straining things with my collegues. A good gambler knows when to leave the table. It would be nice to have some stability but I believe human greed and control either makes it too tough to maintain... or one has to move on for many reasons. It's part of life, change. It used to hurt, now I embrace it. David Bowie shows us all how to keep moving and relevant.
AD: You spend most of the summer months in Ibiza and have played at all the big clubs with past residencies at Manumission & We Love Sundays @ Space. What plans do you have for the white isle this summer?
TS: I spend all year in Ibiza. Have done for 5 years now. It's my home. I'm starting a record label so my time is very full. I'll be appearing at Superfreq at DC10 and El Divino, some Space gigs as well as a couple of free parties. I worked out that Ibiza is best done in small amounts. If you work too much AND have international gigs every weekend you either never see the island except for clubs or only hang around clubbers. It's vital to have normality. So this year I'm keeping it minimal in Ibiza and working on my other projects. When you live in London you don't go on open top bus tours and see the sights do you? It's like that when you live in Ibiza, you just live there, you know... working most of the time, trying to sort your life out. In the spanish rhythm of living, with siesta and such, it's a very different way to be. People assume it's all beaches and clubs for me. Quite the opposite in fact. Spanish are quite hardworking and tend to avoid the sun in large amounts.
AD: We hear you’ve been asked by PAUL OAKENFOLD to join him in HOLLYWOOD! Tell us more?
TS: I've known him since day one. Paul's a great businessman and has been in Hollywood for about 5 years now putting music to movies. Now he wants to make one. To cut a long story short he was freaked out at how little new ideas and creativity are over there. For a laugh I bet him I could write a good original story, I did... and now we have a few things in the pipeline but nothing has gone into production yet. We are in development though. I can't believe it really. I'm amazed I finished a whole script (after 3 drafts) which for me is an achievement I'll be happy with even if it goes no further. I have to respect committed writers, just the pain in your arse and back after a week solid at the plastic piano is so bad for your health.
AD: How would you describe the music you play?
TS: Ace? Dunno. You kind of get to a point where you've been around a long time and people just trust you. In one night I can play minimal, tech, house, breaks and everything in between. Nearly every gig at least one person asks what kind of music they are hearing. I always just say 'good music'. It's mostly stuff only I have (made by myself or friends) or really weird stuff. You'll like it!
AD: What's the best piece of advise you've ever been given?
TS: Never eat anything bigger than your head.
AD: What was the first record you ever bought?
TS: Two little boys/me and you and a dog named Boo ; double A side. Rolf Harris. I was about 10. True.
AD: What is your favourite club in the world?
TS: I prefer one off outdoor or warehouse gigs to clubs. I'm really enjoying Cocoon in Ibiza and Frankfurt at the moment. Panorama in Berlin is pretty hot too.
AD: Did you make any new years resolutions this year and have you stuck to them?
TS: I'm totally scientifically minded and don't subscribe to any superstitions, from religion to walking under ladders. Life is to short to worry about shit that doesn't exist.
AD: Favourite alcoholic drink?
TS: I'd never separate an Alcoholic from his favourite drink. Too cruel!
AD: Custard or ice cream on apple pie?
TS: Neither, I'm very anti american.
AD: Thank you very much for taking the time out to answer these questions. We're thrilled to have you and the veryveryverywrongindeed brand as co promoters of Wastelands.
TS: I'm really looking forward to it!!
