Custom Made presents...DJ Derek, a Bristol-based DJ whose blend of Rocksteady, Reggae, ska, dancehall and soul music has made him an icon for many in the industry, including a host of Jamaican producers and Massive Attack. He has played popular sets at many major festivals, including Glastonbury and The Big Chill. The former accountant "toasts" in Jamaican Patois while DJing. He combines his two other hobbies of real ale and coach travel by visiting Wetherspoons pubs around Britain via National Express. We wanted to make a place where the discerning chiller could go to kick back and listen to ‘grade A’ downtempo tunes. The first Custom Made on Sunday May 20th at The Rainbow was blissful – August 19th is host to the next instalment! Well worth the trip out of your home town if you are not a midlander! It was the nice folk at the last one that made such a good vibe and such a success, so beautiful people, come join forces again and relax/drink/eat/watch/hear/talk/drink/smoke/dance/get rubbed/get read and generally just make merry!!! Mixmaster Morris was a legend at the last do (little bizarre – stayed over at my house on a beanbag, very interesting stories about meeting Radiohead and what goes on behind the scenes of the Superclubs…..!), We have the VJ’s back (because they were truly amazing) who are also performing at the Big Chill this year! We also have another visual delight lined up – Low Maintenance Lifestyle, some very talented graffiti artists (and rather nice chaps to boot). Check out our Myspace page to see some of their work – they are going to paint a big canvas through the day to give you guys something to ponder over whilst Derek is skanking and the drummer is drumming and the sun is shining!
