La Vita 4 Breast Cancer Research presents techno godess... REBEKAH

Its mid June and all the finishing touches are being put to La Vita's debut event in Birmingham. In between all the last minute planning I managed to get hold of Rebekah and this is what she had to say...

What did you have for Breakfast?

Techno on toast the same as most mornings...

You have been a massive supporter of La Vita since the launch last year. Why is working with La Vita so important to you?

To give a little of my time and services to help raise money for charity has always been something I like doing, giving a little away is very rewarding when the motives are not selfish. I worked with a Breast Cancer research night around 5 years ago and La Vita got in touch last year and I just think it is a great cause, everyone knows someone in their family or a friend that has been touched someway by this terrible disease including myself and with the statistics ridiculously high in contracting breast cancer for women, more awareness should be made.

The lineup for La Vita, Birmingham keeps getting stronger and stronger. Who are you looking forward to hearing and why?

The line-up has been in my head for the last year since I spoke with La Vita about doing a Birmingham party! Janette Slack and Dumb Blonde are going to be awesome, the clubbers are really into breaks and electro up here and both these girls play a mixture of the two. Mistress de Funk I still have not heard and I think we play a little similar so that will be cool. But with addition to that we have one of Birmingham's first female Jocks, Mistress Mo, from Flashback dusting off her vinyl to play an old skool set which might just be the set of the night ;0)

Who are your musical idols, past and present?

When I was young I listened to Michael Jackson as most kids did! Think a big element of my funk influence comes from him...haha! DJing wise that inspired me in the beginning was Derrick Carter..he can be really deep sometimes and then just slammin other times, I like the contrast with him that DJing can have different moods and playing a set reflects a part of you. Presently I like loads of producers, loving Beyer, Paco Osuna, Mark Henning....the list is endless! I have also been getting into my Jazz, listening to Miles Davis, he has done some fantastic albums, Bitches Brew is weird yet wonderful and one of my favorites.

"Toad In The Hole" my favourite Rebekah production. What yours and what else can we look forward to from you?

Thats a hard question......! I kind of get excited when I make my tracks and then don't listen to them again for a bit..I am probably a bit of a perfectionist as I always pick faults! Neo gets the best reaction when I play it so probably that one. I was trying to get that bassline out of my head...it has appeared in all my early tracks whilst learning. I have been busy with remixes in the past few months and have Lucca's Quantum (Rebekah mix) due out at the end of this month, Jenn's Interface (Rebekah mix) out in July and a remix for new label Phobic out in August.

You have put in laods of time and effort recently to make sure this event will be the best it can be. What can people expect from the night?

We are opening early for a BBQ and cocktails party moving into a night along with stalls, a raffle and gifts from our sponsors as well as a strong line up, music for all tatse's, some circus style entertainment and one of the best venue's in Birmingham this night is going to be more like a mini festival than your average club night.

What is else is going on in the world of Rebekah right now?

I have been studying music production at college for the past year and the next 3 weeks I have all my final deadlines to complete to get the first part of my qualification, so pretty full on. Writing a Dubstep tune and lots of essays, lots of fun round my house at the minute! Finishing the Phobic remix, sorting out my DJ bookings and obviously preparing for La Vita, Bimingham.

You have played many gigs all over the globe, where is your favourite place?

Gig wise I played recently in Rotterdam for Awakenings which was mind blowing. 4 rooms of techno I was in heaven....the clubbers were really lovely and the atmosphere was crazy. Place wise Hong Kong is my spiritual home, I love the energy of the place.

For people who havent heard you play, how would you best describe your sound? And what makes your sets special?

It has elements of techno, house and minimal with a dash of soul! Not playing one specific genre, mixing it up a little keeps it interesting.

What is the best (and worst) gig you have ever played and why?

There have been so many great gigs....all my recent ones have been ace, perhaps because I appreciate them more as I get older and feel more relaxed whilst playing, definitely an age thing! Cant think of any bad ones...even if the club is quiet I can still thrive of people as long as they are in to it which generally they are.

How important do you think it is for the music industry to get behind such charities like Breast Cancer Research?

I think its very important, as dance music and clubbing is generally aimed at the youth market, awareness through association of music can be made at a younger age.

A banging clubnight or DVD & Takeaway?

hmmm..depends whos playing and what films are out....

Producing or Dj'ing?

Producing...its fresher for me! Its an amazing feeling when you nail a breakdown...(geek, I know!)

Beer or Wine?

Beer

Ibiza or Miami?

Ibiza

MySpace or Facebook?

Both for different reasons...

Looks or Personality?

Personality

White Bread or Brown Bread?

Brown
