? Matt Fear & Martin Howes (Moored in Miami)
Moored in Miami are dj duo matt fear & martin howes, and are probably the best kept secret in Bournemouth.
Oh yes.
martin grew up submersed in hip hop culture and was part of the hardcore explosion in the early 90's. He's been djing since way back, playing with a massive number of premier dj's and holding down residencies in Bournemouth and London. He was also part of the house of 909 production crew, working in partnership with trevor loveys back in the day.
matt has been dj'ing out for a couple of years now, kicking off with a night at 60 million postcards called boombap, he's pretty nice on the cuts and always rips a party up.
Together they are accomplished selectors combining elements of turntablism and tight mixing skills, playing a variety of styles (rap/funk/disco/80's soul/electro/dancehall/house/club/bmore/bassline)........
Basically all straight heat on the dancefloor.......
Over the years they have supported dj questlove (the roots), dj format, the nextmen, roots manuva, switch, trevor loveys, tomb crew, meat katie, bugz in the attic, cut la roc, the bays, joe ransom, fingathing, dan greenpeace, andy smith, tru thoughts cru, parker & moneyshot, jon kennedy

? D*Funk:
D*Funk is one of the rising stars in the breaks scene in the UK right now. His forward thinking attitude to music has seen him become one of the nu breed of DJ’s that’s also a promoter, a producer & remixer.
Co-promoting his own night ‘Break da House’ which over the past 4 years has established itself as one of the biggest breaks, electro & eclectic beats nights in the South, if not the UK, Doug regularly works alongside the cream of the breaks & eclectic A list. Doug Masters aka D*Funk has been the resident since day one steering the night from both behind & in front of the decks. It’s this solid platform that has helped Doug work alongside the likes of Stanton Warriors, Evil Nine, Plump DJ’s, Dub Pistols, Lee Coombs, Meat Katie, Drumattic Twins, Soul Of Man, Nick Thayer, Elite Force, The Freestylers, Ali B, Killa Kela, Jono Fernandez, Krafty Kuts, A Skillz & also Bent, A Man Called Adam, Jon Kennedy, Rob Life, Ninja Tunes, Nostaliga77 to name but a few. Scene pioneers that have helped Doug to get noticed by the right people & making him a name to watch.
Signed to uber-cool breakbeat label, Westway records Doug had is debut release ‘Electrotek’ / ‘Transition’ in Feb 2007, which went on to be no 2 in the Kiss FM breaks chart, rated 4/5 by DJ Mag, feature on a TV advert & on Westway’s first mix compilation ‘Westway To The World’, which itself has been rated ‘Best Mix compilation’ Dec 2007 by both DJ Mag & the highly respected DMC.
Doug’s love for playing music started at a young age. Getting his first set of decks at the tender age of just 15 and playing his first live gig at the age of 16. But the inspiration from that gig and the first taste of live DJing sparked a fuse that is still burning brighter than ever. Now it’s 12 years of club DJing later, which has taken Doug from that first gig in Bristol to now residing Bournemouth, UK which is currently where he calls home.
Head back to 1996, when Doug went to see a certain Mr Tony De Vit playing, this was when he fell in love with House music. After leaving that night he was well and truly converted and the very next day went and sort out those very tunes he had heard so clearly the night before. At this point Doug was already DJing with his roots based in Jungle/Techno but after that night House music became his passion. As his love for house music progresses into prog house, electro, techno he came across breakbeat via Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem & Tayo when it was loosely termed as ‘Nu Skool Breaks’.
‘It was around 2000/2001 & I was getting bored of just playing 4/4 beats that I first started focusing on breakbeats. It was first mainly a sideline for me but after hearing people like Stanton Warriors fusing house & breaks together I was inspired to do something different. I started playing breaks at mainly house venues that I was playing as there wasn’t a breaks night at all in Bournemouth so hence Break da House being started in July 2004.’
Having now played a massive part in putting breaks on the map in Bournemouth, Doug is keen not to get pigeon holed, as he regularly plays all kinds of music from Breaks to House, Funk to Hip-Hop, Chill out to Minimal and all that comes between, Doug has proved himself as one of the leading DJ’s in the south.
