Frenzy officially becomes a religion in response to Bournemouth Council's recent ruling on flyering

Frenzy, the popular and nationally renowned hard house event from Bournemouth, has this week announced that it has officially become a religion.

This announcement is in response to Bournemouth Borough Council’s recent legislation that bans the distribution and flyering of marketing materials on the streets unless a license is purchased, plus express permission granted from the council to do so.

Bournemouth. Flyer free. Except for religion and politics.

Whilst Frenzy deems that this ruling is in fact un-enforcable by law due to the Human Rights Act of 1998, the clubnight does not wish to aggravate the council or set a precedent for other clubbing events to follow.

Instead, Frenzy is taking the necessary steps to ensure that any flyering activities are kept within the boundaries of Bournemouth Borough Council’s recent legislation. The council’s information sheet on street flyering states the following:

The distribution of free printed matter is permitted only with the prior consent of the Council… The legislation does not apply to the distribution of free literature:

  • by or on behalf of a charity within the meaning of the Charities Act 1993 where that literature relates to or is for the benefit of that charity
  • where the distribution is for political purposes
  • by a person who distributes the literature by delivering it into a building or letterbox
  • where the distribution is for the purposes of a religion or belief

Jon Langford preaching to the Frenzy faithful

As a result Frenzy has made the decision after consultation with their legal counsel to becoming its own religion. As with any religions Frenzy has a set of rulings that any practicing members should adhere to which are as follows;

  • I shall pay my council tax
  • I shall not drop litter on the floor
  • I shall respect my neighbours
  • I shall rave safely

In response to comments in the press that Frenzy cannot be officially viewed as a religion, the clubnight is referring to Section 44 of the Equality Act 2006 which states that a religion is as follows:

(a) “religion” means any religion,
(b) “belief” means any religious or philosophical belief,
(c) a reference to religion includes a reference to lack of religion, and
(d) a reference to belief includes a reference to lack of belief.

This definition is broad enough to cover any mainstream religions, cranks, cults, and quite frankly, Frenzy.

Andy Whitby's last service was extremely popular.

Bournemouth Borough Council have so far declined to comment on the matter.

Frenzy’s first ever official gathering as a religious faith will be at Dusk Till Dawn nightclub in Bournemouth on Friday the 1st of August. We will be conducting service between the hours of 11pm and 5am. To find out more please click on this link dontstayin.com

Hahahaha!!! Awesome stuff!!!

Well done for getting round them - top notch!

I have always believed the law should be slave to the people not people slave to the law - make use of the law and it's interpretations for your advantage! Fair play for this one.

It was great to hear Frenzy's press officer Dr Evil on the airwaves this morning.

I'm not sure what the majority of the god fearing population will think of him comparing flyering for Frenzy like the initial pioneers of Christianity and the Bible being pressed up... but hey, it's all good fun.

On a more serious note (because there is one here), this did obviously start out very tongue in cheek but it's now been picked up by a few papers and radio stations.

Ultimately we're taking a stand, albeit a small one, against a ruling that will permit extreme and sometimes offensive political and religious groups to freely canvas to the Bournemouth public, yet places restrictions on those who are supporting the ailing night-time economy.

Very true!

If you don't make the clubbers stay in the local area they will only spend their money outside of Bournemouth for their clubbing fix and the council wouldn't like that in the long run.

thats where you are wrong that is exactly what the blazer wearing killjoys at the council want is for all young people to not have any fun. The council spent all their marketing budget trying to promote the town to the 40s-60's market as they have this distorted vision of bournemouth being like a 1950's picture postcard seaside town but its not going to happen as the 40s 60s market are off travelling the world on cheap airfares. so thats your council tax down the drain and now they are trying to stifle small businesses by banning street promotion it is frankly outrageous, I could not believe my eyes when I saw that the council had even made up traffic warden style outfits for their "civil enforcement officers" (think gestapo) to hand out fines to peole flyering, well they can't stop frenzy now it has divine status the bastards

Crazy mofo... They obviously need a kick up the arse. What lot are in charge in your area? In Portsmouth we have the Lib Dems sitting the most number of seats I believe and it seems like they don't believe in any club having a later licence than 4am and then only if they are a commercial club owned by Luminer etc.

Ermm... well what can I say. The whole turning into a religion thing went a little bit off the scale to say the least.

The Good News

The good news is that there's a film crew coming to Frenzy on Friday night to record the clubbers and DJs for a new club TV channel.

The Bad News

The bad news is that a religious group today has stated they will be making a demonstration on the night outside the club.

I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing - you can see there website on blessed-evangelists.net where they state their intentions.
