The Mass Debate: What is better… hard house or hard trance and hardstyle?

In advance of Frenzy vs Resonate, the two promo teams went to the pub and had a discussion about what is best. Hard house or hard trance/ hardstyle? Needless to after a few pints and a fight in the carpark, we decided to let the clubbers settle the matter. This is what we think, we’d like to get your views.

personally it depends on the DJ for me

Hardstyle : - Kutski, cally & Juice, Frisky
Hard Trance : - Organ Donors

I don't like Hard Trance or Hardstyle. Hard House is very hit and miss too, I don't like bounce but I LOVE Hard NRG.

Music is my first love, it'll always be my last. Everything from late 80's House to epichardpsychotrance. I'm now coming up 35 and I've seen underground music evolve and diversify so much from the beginning that I can't help loving it all. I'm going to have to really beg with my boss to let me have the Sat after free for this. Hopefully Steave and Leigh will be able to come as it's Leigh's Birthday on the Sat as well. Just wind it up baby, and let the good times roll!!

I love the raw power of raging hard house!

What's 'bounced' classed as? No i don't like that!

I love trance with a passion and also love hard trance but anything that sounds like it has a bit of dutch or euro in i really don't like. Hardstyle can fuck off too! Unless it's the Organ donors or it's all pieced together some how by Alex Kidd.

So anything made in the UK is the way froward.

That's my opinion.

I'd say it's all about the hard trance for me, it's my first love hard dance wise, and you really can't beat the European hard trance sound of 99-04 for my money. Banging warping basslines, massive breakdowns and wicked melodies. All about the Scot Project/SHOKK/Dumonde kinda sound.

Although, at the moment, hardstyle's doing really well, loving the Italian stuff and a little bit of Dutch (Showtek, Zany, Luna etc.), so I'd say, all time = hard trance, at the moment = hardstyle. Hard house isn't really doing too much for me at the moment, I mean, don't get me wrong, I like it, but I have to be in the right mood to really get into it. Hard bounce, on the other hand, is fucking wicked though. Just not as good as Euro hard trance and hardstyle...:-p

It all depends on personal perferance, if we all liked the exact same thing, then the world would be boring... Personaly, I think most Hardstyle as 'music' sucks, the cheesey Dutch 'Ice Cream Van' riffs, or the mindless 'Italian Screech' that all sounds the same (For me) and I cant really think of it as 'serious MUSIC'... Tho, loads of my best mates DJ hardstyle, and love it... so for them its 'the best'... and prodcuers like Zany, even tho I dont like the sound, are good engineers.

Hard House and UK Hard Trance come 2nd to my favoured (of course) European Hard Trance. Musicaly, alongside Hard House it can be the most diverse, and in Jon the Baptist, Log One, and Vandall we have the 3 BEST engineers in the dance scene. Fact ;) The quality of the top Euro productions pisses all over most others, always did.

Word!

For me its been euro hardtrance all the way since 2000 at least since i started geting into the scene! But we never used to have to call it euro hardtrance up until few years ago! When someone had to open up another sub genere which in my eyes doesant have a touch on euro!

Hate hardstyle! Like as much as slideout, lil bit of blutonium stuff sometimes which can be fused between the 2 sounds of trance & style i suppose!

Cant beat it for high production & uplifing energy!

Alltho i like acts.. frisky, cally & juice, alex kidd, kutski etc same again they can be fused between the 2 sounds!

hardhouse is ok some chessy but some nice uplifting stuff ive heard here & there!

Thats my 2 pence worth ;)

Obviously this debate is raging at the moment, and I wouldn't be surprised if it comes up in Prime Minister's Question Time.

If you really want to show your support to the hard house vs hardstyle/hard trance debate and want to nail your colours to the mast then click to say you're coming on this link:

Frenzy vs Resonate: The St. Valentine's Weekend Massacre

The night is Frenzy vs Resonate, and is a historic re-enactment of Passion Nightclub in 2003 if you can remember that far back.

The night will go from hard house into hard trance and hard style... and it's only £3 before 1030pm.

BARGAIN.
