Review and thank yous for the Frenzy charity gig
Friday the 13th is traditionally seem as an unlucky day, but I feel after this weekend Frenzy might have bucked that trend. After all, a load of hard house enthusiasts got together with a gang of drum n bass heads and some hard trance fanatics and proved without doubt, that clubbers can all get together and make a difference to a good cause... even if it is a relatively small one in the grand scheme of things.

You helped us to raise over a grand for charity

You all managed to raise over a grand for a charity. That charity was the Poole Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit who look after poorly babies. I know that a lot of our regular clubbers have an afinity with this charity so I don't think we could have picked a better cause. Anyway, that's the background to the night, and I feel we should leave it there now, so let's concentrate on the night itself.

The night kicks off in style

The night began extremely busy with clubbers getting there early to claim their free charity gift from Frenzy, which was a ticket to the Frantic Tour next Saturday with Anne Savage. We managed to take loads of addresses and the clipboard was very much in demand, so expect your free ticket sometime in the post this week.

Doctor Carl and Nurse Jo Jo get things going

As that was going on, downstairs in the basement the Frenzy madness was kicked off by Doctor Carl 'Kennedy' Phoenix with his able assistant, Nurse Jo Jo. These two haven't played together before but have an exceptional understanding of what the Frenzy sound should be, and had no trouble entertaining the massed doctors and nurses. Things were starting to get ever so hot in the basement, especially with the revealing nurses outfits... mostly female, but in some cases male. Frenzy takes all sorts and welcomes all types of characters so this was in truth a fair reflection of the Frenzy demographic.

Firesky hard trance on tour

Meanwhile on the ground floor the Firesky boys from Weymouth had finally managed to track down the essential part of the DJ set-up. Power. Once the lead to turn everything on was located (typical Frenzy-style) they proceeded to blast out the euphoric hard trance, with their main man, Jon the Baptist opening up. I was so pleased for the Firesky boys as this was the first time they'd taken their tour on the road. It was a pleasure for Frenzy to let them get their sound out there and give themselves some exposure in our town. But above all, major kudos to them all for taking their free time out to come and support a worthy cause. You can find out more about them and their forthcoming dates by checking their DSI Group.

The drum n bass boys do their bit

By this time the drum n bass room on the top floor had been opened by Harry (aka Judda). I have to admit I didn't manage to spend too much time up here, but when I did venture up it looked like everyone was having a wicked time and the dancefloor was pumping as you would expect from these fanatical clubbers. Much respect to all the guys from Destiny, Cocoshebeen, Drum Funk, and Rum n Ass for malking such a special effort.

The sweaty basement

Back downstairs into the sweaty depths of the basement we had Frenzy stalwart and pioneer, Cheeky Scott. Scott's always up for dressing up and basically making a fool of himself as most of you will know... in fact next week at the Old Firestation he will dragging himself up on our all female line-up with Anne Savage, Cally Gage, and Charlotte Birch. Worth checking out so you can just come and laugh at him.

Jody Osman takes it a little bit cheeky

At this point the party was in full flow and it was time for Jody Osman to get onto the Frenzy decks. Jody had come down London for the weekend to see his old friends in Bournemouth and soon reminded them of what they were missing... funky, chunky, and proper old skool hard house. I know that a lot of people were excited to see him back in his old stamping ground. If you feel that you'd like to see him come down again please get in touch as I know he was so happy about dusting down his old hard house.

The Tidy Girl and her special medicine

After Jody came Tidy Girl, Kym Ayres. As was expected she took it a little bit harder and more onto the Slinky-style of hard dance. This was wicked as the whole basement was rocking at this point. The tunes were quality and mostly had that little vocal hook in which is always appreciated with the Frenzy crowd. Fair play to Kym as well for getting into the sprit and dressing up in the doctors and nurses theme.

The Tidy Boys... hmmm.. not quite

Finally we had the duo that have been compared to the Tidy Boys, mainly because they are both going bald! Daina (aka Jon) back to back with Big Al. These guys are fast making themselves a reputation in Bournemouth for their enthusisam behind the decks... if you've not seen these guys play before then I suggest you do because they will have it as much, if not more than everyone on the floor. Always amusing... everytime!

The end of the night...

As the night drew to a close the boys played their final Tony De Vit track as the lights came up. We all had a look around the club and spied various medical implements on the floor such as oversized rubber thermometers and comedy syringes. Looking closer we found a few other items such as garters and knickers. I'm not sure about everything that happened on Saturday night in the dark, but from the state of the club it was extremely debauched. From the look of the bedgraggled doctors and nurses stumbling into the early hours of the morning on Holdenhurst Road you all had a fantastic time. You helped us to raise over a thousand pounds for poorly babies so we all went home in the knowledge we'd all done some good and also had a bloody good time.

The tearful bit

And now for the cheesy thank yous:
  • Everyone in the Frenzy crew for their past efforts over the last few weeks
  • Ryki and his crowd from Firesky for coming down from Weymouth to help out
  • Hassan from the Empire Club for being so generous with the door takings and letting us have an extra hour
  • Olly at Destiny for his support and help with getting all the promotions together
  • The drum n bass boys from Cocoshebeen, DrumFunk, and Rum n Ass for giving up their time to open the top floor
  • Alice and Kym at Slinky for helping to promote the evening online
  • The local businesses who gave up a couple of prizes for the best-dressed clubbers
  • All the DJs who came down to play and give up their valuable time
  • Our old friend Luke for making sure the radio waves carried the Frenzy message
  • The shops and pubs in Bournemouth who carried the Frenzy promo material for a good cause
  • And of course, all the clubbers who came down and helped to blow the roof off

The next event with Anne Savage, Cally Gage, and Frantic

Our next event is at The Old Firestation on Saturday the 21st of April. We are hosting the Frantic Tour with guest DJs Anne Savage, Cally Gage, Charlotte Birch and Frisky. Mickey Finn will be headlining the drum n bass arena upstairs. Tickets are now on sale in the shops listed on the DSI listing so click to say you're coming. You can also buy tickets online from Ticketshack.

Thanks for the kind comments. We're getting the money converted into one of those massive comedy cheques, which will then form part of a handover. When this is done I'll get some photos online.

Thankyou KT. We loved it and getting an extra hour of madness too was a massive bonus. Couldn't hear bugger all by the end of it all tho..
The biggest respect to you all for coming along and supporting us especially the ones who dressed up.
