Slinky interview Marco V in advance of the Halloween Ball

If you were to define the term ‘dance music purist’, you’d take into consideration a number of factors... knowledge, passion and substance. Combine them together and you get Marco V. Like many of the world’s superstar DJs Marco was born and bred in Holland. He is a modest and down to earth family man with an undying lust for music. Entrenched in the scene from an early age, it was clear right from the start which path Marco would take... and October 31 sees him take to the Slinky decks at our Halloween Ball!

1. Hi Marco, traditionally with Slinky interviews we ask the DJs what they’re currently listening to, where they’re sat, just so we can get the picture. Please tell.

Just came out of the studio and worked on a track “When The Night Falls” from my new forthcoming album.

2. It’s that time of year again when the DJ Mag votes start to be cast. Do you personally place any value on accolades such as the DJ Mag Awards and is it important to you to receive that type of recognition?

It’s great when people are voting for you... Personaly the list is not important for me but it seems to be for some promoters and clubbers so at the end of the day it is important for me as well.

3. You’ve got a new album called Propaganda which has been four years in the making. Why the long wait, and could you please tell us a bit about it?

First of all time flies, I didn’t realise that it was almost 4 years since my last album. I wanted to create an album that works on the dancefloor but also great to listen in the car.

4. Your biography states that you were born with music in your veins so I am intrigued to know a little more about your upbringing in Holland. Were you a music lover from a young age?

Yes I was 10 years of age when the whole dj start to get my interest. I did a lot of mixing contests from the age of 16 (DMC etc). Being a hiphop dj for a while and started to play in clubs a bit later.

5. Your track "Simulated" is making an appearance on the new Slinky Classics album as we felt it was a trance classic. What trance tracks do you consider to be classics and what makes a classic track in your opinion?

A classic needs a riff or vocal that can is still nice to listen years after. A lot of dance music is only great for a short time.

6. For last year’s Halloween Ball the Slinky crew all revealed their scariest ever experiences. Now it’s your turn so we’d like to know what event in your life was the scariest or most frightening?

That is definetly my flight experiences. Landing gear that not want to come down. Also taking off on a runway and than we had to hit the brakes because another plane was coming..... I can go on and on. But always flying ;-)

7. If you weren’t a global DJ superstar, what would you be doing instead, and can you imagine any other life other than the one you lead today?

If I wasn’t the dj that I am today than I would be still making music as a hobby and would have a dayjob at my brothers factory in fitness equipment. I worked there before this all started for me.

8. There are quite a few Marco V interviews on the internet, but could you perhaps tell the Slinky clubbers something about you which nobody might know… possibly a secret, or a hidden passion for something we would not expect?

No there is nothing that I want to share that is not already mention I all my previous interviews ;-P

9. What can the Slinky clubbers expect from you on the 31st of October in the main room of the Bournemouth 02 Academy (was the Opera House)?

My Propaganda part 2 album is ready by that time, so I will play a lot of my new stuff.

10. Lastly, you’re a well travelled man of the world, and with that in mind we’re going to leave the last word to you.

Peace!
