Info

Music : Old Skool House, Breaks, Jazzy Drum and Bass, Funk, Jazz-Funk, Soul and Rare Groove

All profits will be given directly to Phoenix community charity which is giving relief to the Sri Lankan East coast communities.

High profile bands and visual experts are kindly supporting the charity and performing throughout the evening.

The Bays- ‘Performance is the product.’ This well known and highly supported band can only be seen live as they do not produce or sell any recordings. Their mission is to try to create music in the purist, least diluted form as possible. They believe that music should be seen first hand live rather than the recreation of a moment long passed.

The nationally renowned performance band don’t record their music, don’t release CD’s, don’t rehearse and never perform the same set twice. Every gig is a one off exclusive interaction between performers and audience

The 4 piece comprise of: Chris Taylor (Spiritualised), Jamie Odell (Jimpster), Simon Richmond (aka Palmskin Productions (Mo’wax, Nenah Cherry, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) and one of the worlds leading drummers, Andy Gangadeen (Faithless, Massive Attack, De La Soul, Spice Girls!)

Funked up dance is at it’s core but the bays draw elements from disco, house, breakbeat, hip hop, techno, dub, ambient and often finish off with some real live drum and bass- it’s all there!

There is no one out there doing anything vaguely similar to them at the moment- catch them while you can. (www.thebays.com)

Jon Kennedy is almost certainly one of the 3 most talented men in all of Stockport, Discovered by Mr Scruff, Jon’s sets are infamous on Grand Central Records, the esteemed Manchester labels roster, playing the best in soulful cut-and-paste melodies and hip-hop grooves
Jon is returning specially from performing in Paris to support this charitable event. www.jonkennedy.co.uk

Chris Pedley from the Baker Brothers adds some local fine DJ talent to the downstairs roster. (www.thebakerbrothers.com)

Upstairs is hosted by Russ Jones from Future World Funk- Risqué, ethnic and furiously funky, Russ blends the finest world beats and electric dance floors vibes, showcasing his talent for discovering the new and playing the unheard. Giles Peterson wishes he was this good- test ya all- name dat tune! www.futureworldfunk.com

Other support comes from the versatile local favourite Martin Howes, and visuals from the spectacular VJ Seeper (www.seeper.com) and Yeast productions (www.yeastproductions.co.uk)

£6 on door, £5 in advance available from Consortium store and bar, Jabba-wocky- Burlington arcade in from Boots, Golden supermarket- Charminster and the Arts Institute Students Union

Costumes win prizes- we’re looking for creativity and colour.

This is a one off special to raise money for the victims of the tragic Tsunami disaster in South East Asia. Every penny raised goes towards this vital cause- no middleman expenses bullshit! www.phoenixcommunity.org
Our thanks to all the artists and helpers, who have given their time to raise money for this vital cause.
