One of the most pivotal and popular electropop outfits of the last decade, Ladytron take their name from the song ‘Ladytron’ on the 1972 self-titled debut album by Roxy Music. Originally classified by music journalists as key players in the electroclash scene, they’ve managed to escape that particular pigeonhole and forge their own unique sound, as well as a huge, passionate fan base. Their storming live act, like their records, is notable for not using any samples at all, instead playing everything live using synthesizers, while their acclaimed DJ sets span over thirty years of ice cool rock, indie, New Wave, and of course, electro. Balancing pop structures and retro styling, albeit with a distinctly experimental touch, their latest long player (‘Witching Hour’) saw a beefing up of their sound, leading the album to be described by Pitchfork as a ‘quantum leap record’. Don’t miss their SP debut.
