Camilo Franco is Back!

Hello Camilo!

How the devil are you?

I’m not a devil, I’m a good guy, but only sometimes… hehe!

It’s been nearly two years since you last played at Hat-Club. Why have you been away for so long?

I don’t know! No really, I love Hat Club parties, but I’ve had a lot of work on over the past two years, so it’s taken us this long to fix a date together.

We must say we’re looking forward to having you back. What is your last Hat-Club memory?

I can only explain in one word: AWESOME!!

Did you wear a hat?

Yes I tried to wear a hat, but when I started to play I had to take it off. Sorry Dave!

In fact, Hat-Club was your first ever UK gig. What was your first impression?

I loved it of course. The people, the hats, the atmosphere, the place, and the organisation of course.

What are you up to in sunny Spain at the moment?

At this moment I’m resident at Space Ibiza, La Troya Ibiza resident, and Pacha Valencia Resident, so I’m keeping busy.

Do you often return to your birth place of Columbia?

I want to go next February. Maybe I’ll tour around the country and then I can visit my family whilst I’m there.

You mentioned all your Ibiza residencies. How was it for you this year and what do you think to the rumours that Ibiza is ‘loosing its magic’?

This year for me was excellent. I played some really good parties to some great crowds, and the island is making a change to clean up the negative things happening there. The problem is, it’s all very political, but I think the magic is still in the Island, just because that island is fu**ing magic in itself!! I love it. Give Ibiza one more year and you’ll see for yourself.

You were spotted by Erick Morillo many moons ago whilst playing at Pacha. What did he say to you?

I already had a really good relationship with Erick and his tour manager Tim when he first approached me. Erick likes my style and he proposed for me to play with him at many Subliminal Parties in summer 2006 and 2007, but last year I couldn’t play because I had an exclusivity deal with Space.

You’ve previously teamed up with production partners David Penn and Deep Josh. What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I am working on solo projects and with Tuccilo, a new big talent from Italy, but I will work with Josh and hopefully David again.

You are lucky enough to travel the world with your job. Where’s your favourite place to play?

Ibiza, of course! But there are other places like London, Argel, Dubai, and Switzerland.

We think you’re rather handsome. Do you find women (or men!) throw themselves at you because of your job?

I had a girlfriend until last summer, but now I am single. I didn’t have problems with my last girlfriend because of my job, because if I have girlfriend - I have girlfriend, you know? I am totally faithful. I think, if you want a girlfriend you have to be faithful and if you can’t be faithful, stay single.

Did you always dream of being a DJ?

Yes.

Who’s been your biggest non-musical influence in your life?

My family.

What’s your happiest memory?

I think last year on August 26th (my mother’s birthday). I was playing from 20h to 22h at We love Sundays on the Sunset terrace with all my family inside the booth - my mother, father, sister and nephews. And then when I finished, we went and had a magical dinner at La Escollera in front of the sea. It was great!

And the most embarrassing?

When I was playing with vinyl, one time I took the record that was playing live, and all the music stopped and everybody in the club was looking at me hehe… Was embarrassing, but was funny too!

What was your last purchase?

IPHONE and a clock.

Do you have any fetishes you’d like to share with us?

Women’s high heel shoes or boots. And women’s nails painted in red - I love them!

What do you find most annoying?

I think when people shout in a quiet restaurant.

What’s your worst habit?

Biting my nails, but I’m giving up… hallelujah!

Sum up yourself in three words

Serious, honest and wicked!

Thanks Camilo, you have been wonderful! Catch him at Hat-Club on Saturday 29th November and Digital, Brighton.
