Something Soulful Is Happening

This article is about Bobby&Steve Presents... @ Funky Buddha Lounge in Brighton (UK), Fri 27 Feb

Brighton has always been well known for its thriving nightlife and music scene, this funky little city by the sea is oozing with DJ’s producers, singers, songwriters you name it, and on any night of the week you can always find somewhere in town to go and enjoy some the creative talent Brighton has to offer.

Over the past few years we’ve seen an influx of breaks, hip hop & electro on the Brighton music scene but one genre of music we’ve haven’t seen so much of recently is deep & soulful house.

Back in the early to mid nineties in Brighton you couldn’t go out in town and escape from soulful sounds of American house and garage, with the likes of Barbara Tucker & Michael Watford bellowing out of every club and bar it was a great place to be if you like your house music on a funky soulful tip.

Not only were we spoilt for choice when it came to nightlife but we also had some great radio stations airing the deep & soulful grooves all day long and not to mention some of the best record shops to go and buy the latest King Street, Westend or Strictly Rhythm releases.

So what happened? Well Brighton has changed a lot in recent years and we’ve witnessed lots of other music scenes come along which has been great in adding to the musical diversity of the city but we have missed being able to go out and dance the night away to the deep & soulful sounds some of us grew up on.

Well it looks like we are in for a treat in Brighton as U.S house pioneers Bobby & Steve are coming to town to save our souls!
Any house head in the know will know who these guys are, Bobby & Steve are the men behind London’s infamous long running club night “Garage City” and back in the early nineties they brought the soulful U.S house sound to the airwaves of London on Kiss FM every week.

On 27th February Zoo Grooves Stereo & SVA Promotions are bringing Bobby&Steve Presents to town, this night has gone down a storm in London having showcased the likes of Louie Vega, Bugz In Da Attic, Victor Simonelli & Barbara Tucker so now its our turn to get in on the fun.

Bobby&Steve Presents is going to be held at the Funky Buddha Lounge on the last Friday of every month with the first night to be held on 27th of February with Bobby & Steve, Funky P & Russell Ruckman, entry is free before 12 and just £6 thereafter or £5 for NUS members.
