Hey, come on you two JACKIN/ACID/TECH house heads!!!

Speller> I agree with you on all the other wicked ressie's about, Nic Fanciulli & Paul Woolford must be amongst the best.

jbawn> This thread is all about a matter of opinion, you can't say 'someone knows their music' just because they have the same opinion as you!!!

I like Trance & Jackin' House.. nothing wrong with that surely?!

someone got it spot on saying that it's more about the style of music or the 'night' that makes your clubbing experience (not gonna matter how good the honey club is if you go there for a mid week student night).

but, for me the best venue in the city, the one that fills you with the greatest feeling of awe, fear and excitement when you open the double doors and see the whole room rammed, the lasers, the visuals and the act on the stage, is the Concorde.

shame most of the nights there have done so average recently. i guess everyone's too busy arguing over the Zap and Honeyclub to make it down there

Spellado, I havent been to Audio since the refurb, what were the major changes??? When I went before for my birthday January 2004 the place was shit, the night was pretty shit to, was a Saturday and my mates came down from the Midlands & the North & it was embarrasing. Thank fcuk for DSI, now we all have access to loads of information and we now can plan our messy weekends all over the country with ease.

Btw I like the sound of Stompafunk and l will be checking it out at some point in the near future ...

tough one. lot of similarities; both have funktion1's, both with an upstairs bar, both compete for the same crowd ie the knowledgeable-T-shirt'n'trainer wearing-chin stroking bunch (thats not a diss, i only ever wear t shirt and trainers and i have been known to stroke my chin in appreciation for top quality tuneage)

I'm a resident at both so can't say much really. On the right nite they both rock. I'd say Audio probably edges in bringing the newest & most underground music to brighton, but Ocean Rooms probably edges in the party stakes eg. Suicide Saloon- what other club in brighton can u party till 10am?

preferred audio when it was escape. more chill out areas and two rooms of music. Prefer Ocean rooms to audio, although both quality music. Concorde better venue than both. well said cynic 1

PMSL, I guess these Chin Strokers are what we used to call Trainspotters Russ. I seem to remember trying to drag my mates to Ocean Rooms last Sunday Morning around 6.30am but they were having none of it so we ended up going back to catch the train home. Whats the crack with the Suicide Saloon, opening times etc ???

A chin stroker is someone like myself who knows most of the records being played and when he doesn't he runs up to the dj box like a kid to a toy shop and pesters the dj to know what it is. We're a common breed in both those venues, u can normally find us lurking round the booth or at the bar trying to talk intelligently about music on a night out when we're supposed to be partying. Quite sad.

Suicide Saloon is basically a monthly social event where the sick wronguns of brighton don't have to go home as early as normal. It's at the Ocean Rooms and opens 4am-10am. The next one is on the 1st april. HOWEVER i strongly advise going to the best party in town (my party) Brighton Early@the funky buddha beforehand open 3am-7am. I play at both so theres always a troop of us at 7am leaving the buddha to go to the Ocean Rooms for more action. So you get yourself a nice 3-club bender ie. ___________ followed by the buddha followed by the ocean rooms. Proper partying and u don't even have to be in London...

Houseisafeeling - U wouldn't recognise Audio compared to when it was Escape... totally different.

Russ - I get what you mean about trainers/t-shirt/chin strokers but I've met ppl at SP who just because their not hearing screaming Barbara Tucker vocals don't even realise their listening to House (but they seem to be havin a wicked nite so that doesn't really matter!)

Jbawn - Yousef was at 3am... typical, the one 3am i've missed and it was that one!

I'm not going to comment on concorde as I haven't been since xmas 03.

My opinion on this is: Audio for musical line-ups (surprise surprise) but Ocean Rooms in terms of layout and atmosphere. Therefore heaven= Stompaphunk @Ocean Rooms!

I think it all comes down to what you prefer on the dancefloor... hands up, jump around and sing-a-long or heads down, tripped out stomp (nothing wrong with either)

Did ya see Jon carter at ocean rooms last month. Another awesome night and wicked set, but he played Blondie and everyone fucked off, only to all come back downstairs when they shut the upstairs room. I thought his set was top, apart from blondie and blur!!

Nah missed him last month but went in October and June last yr... fuckin quality. In june the club was completely empty by 2 (they shut upstairs and there was bout 15 of us downstairs) but he carried on, playing really eclectic. In October he was immense from start to finish. Ended with the high contrast mix of the white stripes 'my doorbell'. That was one of the best clubbing experiences I've ever had... a club full of ppl who'd been dancing to dirty acid all nite suddenly goin' crazy for d'n'b... genius.

Wander why Jon Carter cant fill the ocean rooms. Hes a massive dj and everywhere else he plays its packed. Find it bit strange hes not huge here, especially as he was support dj on brighton legend, Fatboy Slims world tour a few years ago!

Dunno... could be down to the rooms location. I think I heard from sumone it was only half full the last time x-press 2 played there as well. Also there was a time bout 18 months ago that he was on at the rooms along with David Guetta but didn't show. I know ppl who don't wanna risk paying £8 or whatever it is and for him to not show again.

I was at the night Carter didnt show, im sure alot of people were pissed off by that as he didnt seem to have a decent reason, someone just said it was because he was too fucked from his Friday night shenanigans, if that istrue that is no excuse for a proffesional jock whatsoever.

David Guetta did a very good job on his own though & the crowd loved it, it was around September 2004 and the weather was still good, it was fucking boiling hot down there in the basement but the atmosphere was wiked and Guetta was still riding high on his recent summer sucess with his own track "Just a Little More Love" he did drop it in & out of the mix half a dozen times though, that would be my only criticism of his otherwise very good set.

just like to add my twopennerth about the concorde, its a very linear venue and to get from one end to the other you have to negotiate leaping loons on the dancefloor, and when packed its a fuckin nightmare......having said that, it is a blinding live music venue with the raised stage, but for me it doesn't feel clubby.

Russ is right about his parties at the Funky B - they're magic - def the most fun I've had in brighton by miles

Do you think Suicide Saloon will stay open till 10 next time Russ? Very weird the way the last one closed early...

What a completely spasticated thread...

How can you can compare two completely different types of club. Brighton is a quality town, and needs a selection of different clubs to provide a wide variety and to ensure everyone is catered for and has a choice!

Honey Club looks amazing now, im really chuffed to bits with it - last saturday was a top night. Granted it was a bit too packed to start with for my liking, BUT it was the opening night for fucksake so i was expecting it to be rammed! Gary and the gang are really onto a winner here and i agree 100% with Mikes comments - they now have a brilliant club, great bunch of resident DJs and a top crowd!

Ive been to the Zap afew times, and yes ive had good nights there too, but its a completely different club. Not wanting to compare the two, but Honey Club is in a league of its own now - they attract the best DJs and are starting to have the best line-ups week after week!

Whoever started this thread - grow up and stop being a twat! Alot of hard work has gone into the new Honey Club - i spoke to Dave Goddings on the night and saw how nackered he was (he had been working on getting the club ready all day) and i really appreciate the amount of time and effort that has gone in to make Honey Club what it is!

Well done all @ Honey Club, you've done an excellent job! =)
