Eric Prydz at Sevensins

This article is about Seven Sins present Eric Prydz @ The Honey Club in Brighton (UK), Sat 14 Apr 2007

Eric Prydz (born July 19, 1976, in Täby, Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish DJ and producer best known for his 2004 hit single "Call on Me", a remake of Steve Winwood's classic hit "Valerie", which topped the UK singles charts for five weeks. "Call On Me" was also number one on the German Top100 for six consecutive weeks. Eric Prydz also releases music under several other aliases including Cirez D, Pryda, Moo, Dirty Funker and Sheridan. Additionally he has collaborated under the names Axer (with fellow Swede Axwell), A & P Project (with fellow Swede Steve Angello), Dukes Of Sluca (with Andreas Postl), Hardform and Groove System (both with Marcus Stork).

Prydz' music falls under many genres, depending on which alias it is released under. Tracks released under his own name tend to be plain house, whilst songs under the Cirez D moniker are generally progressive house with an electro house edge. Prydz' songs are almost exclusively progressive house, with melodic synths that give them a very distinct and instantly recognizable sound.

Call On Eric Prydz (Honey Club Set Review)

Eric Prydz was in town this week playing at Brighton’s Honey club. Turning up at midnight wearing a NY baseball cap and his Sennheiser HD25 headphones firmly fixed to his head, Eric opened his 2 hour set with a typical Prydz’s style of tune that reminded me of the old style of House music. Low beats and a lack of vocal accompaniment. The crowd were pleased to see him, even though Eric didn’t really seem to be aware of them for most of the time. Previous DJs that have graced the Honey club in the past few months have included Judge Jules, who for once turned up on his own and danced through most of his Hard Trance set, JFK who spent a long time waiting to come on and then delivered very little in the way of new tunes, and then Matt Darey who in my opinion set the mark for others to follow with his seamless mixing from tune to tune and dedicated awareness on the crowd, finishing his set with what can only be described as one of the best dance tunes of all time – Lost Tribe – “Gamemaster”.

The Swedish DJ kept the Brighton crowd happy for the first 45 minutes and then seemed to lose his way a bit. With a lack of familiar tunes to keep the dance floor busy and each track resembling the next with very little change in tempo, Eric played on obviously unaware that areas of the club were becoming less busy. He finally managed to pull one out of the bag as the time approached 2am with remixed tracks from Robin S and of course the 2006 club anthem “Proper Education”.

Just because he's not a 'performer' behind the decks as such like the Judge doesn't mean to say he's not as good - I thought he was technically one of the best DJ's I've ever seen, he has his own distinctive sound which was nice and fresh to hear for a change.

I really enjoyed it & was well worth the entrance fee. I couldn't stop dancing although it was fucking hot in there!!

I totally agree with you, it was a great night and I thought his DJing skills were very good, but when you consider that people came to see him perform and not just play records, and might I add for twice as much cash n' coin as regular nights, you expect a little bit extra. I've seen a lot of A-List DJs, Tiesto for example in Sweden to a crowd of 7,000 and he couldn't stop entertaining the crowd. After all, what is the point in seeing a famous DJ if he is going to act much like a resident DJ! I liked the style of music Eric played, but 2 hours without a change in tempo or at least for him to spin up one of his famous tunes to keep the Brighton crowd interested wouldn't have gone a miss.

Yeh i kinda agree, but saying that he plays a sound that isnt my favourite so maybe i wud b biast in my opinion there. It was a nice change to a usual banging sevensins sound, and gotta agree he technically is brilliant. Still had a good time!!

Yeah you're right, he could have dropped some of his more well-known tunes like Re-match, Mouseville Theme or Aftermath (so many tunes to choose from!!!) Cant remember hearing any of them which was a little bit disappointing but never mind.

personally i was happy with EP but as i go clubbing for the fun of it i dont really take much notice who is playing at any particular point of the evening, the only time i do notice is when i am getting bored or the DJ is crap...then is the time to do one! but as i stayed until 4.30ish i reckon all was good with sevensins.

What Adam said

After being awake for about 48 hours I didnt know or care who was on it could have been Noel Edmunds for all I know. I left quite early but the atmosphere was good all night from what I remember.

Its alway nice to see a dj enjoying himself & interacting with the crowd but if hes playing the right music & the crowd are happy then thats good enough for me.

i think the dancefloor started to empty due to the heat and the fact that there was so many people who dont really know eric prydz's dj sets are underground house music and had turned up to see eric prydz play his chart stuff!

u dont pay your money to see eric wave his hands in the air and joke around... some djs do it, but when his set is as dark, moody, grating, filthy... it goes with the terretory... quality night, get him back soon
