Simon "Bassline" Smith Biography

Influenced by his love of underground funk, soul and hip-hop the infamous Simon 'Bassline' Smith started spinning the decks at an early age. At this point in his life he was setting the stage for the rest of his musical career by pioneering the sound of the underground all over the UK which was the basis of the rave scene as we know it today.

Simon was given the name 'Bassline' after destroying the majority of the speakers at the parties at which he played.

As the underground rave scene progressed in the early 1990's Simon 'Bassline' Smith was at the forefront, playing for some of the biggest dance organizations in the UK such as : Perception, Mythology,Raindance, Dance '91 and World Dance & AWOL, along side Grooverider, Fabio, Mickey Finn & Jumping' Jack Frost.
Simon was spearheading the new musical form (Jungle) now known as Drum & Bass.

Simon quickly set up his own label, called Absolute 2, which at the time, was one of the only Drum & Bass labels in the world which gave birth to now legendary producers such as: - Doc Scott, Nookie, Ray Keith and Danny C (twisted anger / primary motive)
Absolute 2 Records released a long list of ground-breaking tunes including such anthems as:-
Doc Scott -The Surgery EP, Nookie - Give a Little Love EP and the controversial Ray Keith - News at Ten.

With the success of Absolute 2, under his belt Simon began his career as a producer and was an instant success with anthems such as:- Music and Life EP, Palomino ( Absolute 2 ) and Midnight ( Good Looking ) were all seminal tracks in what was just becoming D&B.His musical style was, to say the least, ahead of its time.

In the 1998 the paths of Simon 'Bassline' Smith and, a relatively unknown bunch of dj's / producers called, Drumsound crossed.
Their mutual understanding and musical tastes were the defining factor which initially brought them together and it was soon decided that a combined imprint should be formed in order to showcase their joint / individual projects Technique Recordings was born.

Since its conception Technique Recordings, Bassline Smith and Drumsound have gone from strength to strength utilizing their knowledge and enthusiasm to build an imprint of global proportion. Their success has been created through the ability to work tightly as a team and to progress as one formidable unit.

Simon Bassline Smith has spread the Technique sound over every continent over the last few years……

2004/05 were massive years for Simon Bassline Smith. Alongside Drumsound he produced the biggest track of the year for Grooveriders’ Prototype imprint. The mighty ‘Odyssey’ went on to hit the number one spot in the UK dance chart. Last year also saw a debut artist album from the Drumsound & Bassline Smith collaboration, and a string of releases on Renegade Hardware, Creative Source, Timeless, V recordings, Formation, CIA and of course their own Technique Recordings and Worldwide Audio Recordings. The momentum continued with remix projects delivered DJ Hype’s Ganja and their debut release for Breakbeat Kaos (Adam F & DJ Fresh)

Over the past few years Bassline Smith has secured his place in the D&B premiership. His Technique imprint goes from strength to strength and his heavyweight DJ sets have spread the Technique sound over every continent. In recent months his appearances have spanned America, Canada, Australia, France,Italy,Germany, Russia, Iceland, Spain, Holland, Sweden, Ireland, Czech Republic, Brazil, Poland, Switzerland, Uruguay, Norway, Italy as well representing for some of the biggest UK organisations such as Slammin Vinyl, Accelerated Culture, One Nation, Detonate, Movement – the list goes on.

Bassline Smith alongside his partners Drumsound have released their 2nd Album ‘ Street Technique’ on Technique Recordings which features tracks from Roni Size, Fresh, Youngman MC, J Majik, Friction, Tali, Artificial Intelligence amongst others as the label has moved from respected underground drum and bass label to one of the leading labels in the industry.

Fast forward to 2007 and Drumsound & Bassline Smith are set to release another monster anthem ‘Cold Turkey’ on Technique Recordings with massive support from headliners such as Grooverider,Hype,Andy C Bryan G, Roni Size,Mampi swift to name a few

Bassline Smith’s heavyweight DJ style is a full on assault of cutting edge Drum & Bass set to smash up the dancefloors worldwide.
