Interview with Fila ahead of his UK debut at Peach this Friday

This article is about Peach @ The Zap Club in Brighton (UK), Fri 13 Apr 2007

Where in Egypt are you from?

Cairo Huge City ;)

Is there a strong club scene there and if so what style of music kick arse? Would we be surprised??

There is a night life. Egyptians like to have fun and go out etc… but its all now about RnB and Hip Hop and house music. Trance was only strong in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Are those that are into dance music very clued up, and know who is who in the scene?

Yeah sure. All the big names are well known in Egypt.

When I tell people how awesome Israel is to play, they always look surprised as they just see the country as a religious place. Do you think that’s how people view Egypt too?

People think we still live in tents or pyramids hahaha, and they think I travel with Camel.

Being from a place where most people would not think there was a scene, have you found it hard here to get recognition?

Yeah for sure.

How long have you been producing with Aly, how did it come about and who does what in the studio??

We both have our own studios. We worked together on many tracks, sometimes worked alone. Depends ;)

Tell us about your studio, what sequencer do you use and what plug ins do you have??

I have been using the Cubase SX3 for a long time. But after I came here to London, I decided to change to Logic with Apple. Apogee sound card which is an amazing sound quality, got with me from Egypt my Virus TI which I absolutely love and last but not least the TC electronics Powercore which I mainly use for Mastering and some FX.

You are in London for 4 months on an engineering course, tell us more about that

Well I m doing a sound engineering course for 4 months here in London to take my production to a higher level. Some people said that I don’t need it, but I always searching for reaching the best I can. Knowledge is power ;)

Your current tune Ankh signed to Ligaya is awesome as are your remixes of DT8 Project’s “Hold Me Till The End” and “Why” from FKN. What’s next in the pipeline?

A remix for Ben Gold new single called Roll Cage, remix for Lost Witness VS Sassot – Whatever to be out soon on Armada, our remix for Deems- tears of hope out on Discover soon and many others will be released this year 2007 ? well on the pipeline, I m working on the new Aly & Fila or maybe it will be under the A&F Project guise.

You are the DJ out of the duo, where you dj’ing before you hooked up with him?

Not so much to be honest. Maybee some small private parties with friends. Nothing big.

What countries have enjoyed Fila DJ sets and where has been your best experience?

To be honest I haven’t toured a lot yet, but I think the DJ career is taking off now ;) but my best experience was in the street parade in Zurich. What an amazing day. I m sure you remember it ;)

Was anyone your inspiration that made you wanna take this life on??

Paul Van Dyk all the way. I have always been a big fan of him. Maybe he doesn’t know, but I always travelled for his shows. He always made a great atmosphere.

It was great to see you at the re launch Of Peach in London at Heaven recently-what did you think of it, and did it get you excited about this Friday at The Zap?

What an amazing night!!!! To be honest, I felt that trance is still in a very good shape in UK and in safe hands. I’m really excited about this Friday. Can’t wait for my UK debut with Peach.

Come and see Fila & Aly at Peach, this Friday @ the Zap club Brighton.
