MasterRavers..yet another successful event...
MasterRavers presents how hard are you?- possibly the best event so far….?

MasterRavers blasted into their new venue, Blue Mountain in true style, with the perfect start to our 2009 year of raving with what many have acclaimed our best event to date. This up and coming group brings together Bristol and the south wests community of smiley, friendly ravers, all out for the same things- a night of stomping hardcore and hardstyle tunes, and a friendly trouble free atmosphere where we all join together to stomp and mix with our raving family and meet more likeminded people.

MasterRavers has an aim to find and launch the up and comers of the dj world, setting the way for the next generation of top djs. And this night was an especially significant moment in the groups history. Headlining with top female hardcore dj Scar in an exclusive b2b set was MasterRavers own energetic Starspirit, who together pounded out an hour of upront hardcore, for what you would never imagine could possibly be just her second set played out! This little gem has all the hallmarks to be up there with the best in a hardcore scene that’s primarily male dominated There are not nearly enough female hardcore djs out there, in fact most ravers would struggle to name but a handful, but this pair are on the road to tipping the balance. This extremely talented budding dj knows no bounds and its clear she will go far, a star well and truly has been born. Scar is also one of our extremely dedicated ressies, who will regularly go out of her way to help MasterRavers. Starspirit (Kay) and Scar struck up a firm friendship when they met after Scar played at one of Kays local clubs, and she has greatly inspired and supported Kay. Kay’s dream goal was to play a set with Scar, and her skills and tune selection left an impressive mark on Scar.

Expect much more from Starspirit at future events and further among the hardcore scene. She has been a truly dedicated part of MR, always putting her heart and soul into helping out with the MasterRavers group and events, and helped get the group where it is today, and now it is her turn to shine.

DJ Becks also made her mark into the female hardcore scene, with the opening set of the main room, giving the night the instantly energising start it needed, as she confronted the flow of eagerly arriving ravers with much needed bpms to get them straight up onto the dancefloor virtually the moment they were through the door. Last minute bonus addition MC Spuddy spun out the lyrics to get everyone raring to go and launched himself well and truly back onto the scene.

MC Flo’s debut MasterRavers set as our latest MC ressie saw him team up with DJ Tangent as the second hour progressed, who pounded out the hard bouncey hardcore. This duo quickly proved a dynamite force to be reckoned with, showing how well DJs and MCs can work together and compliment one another, as they created perfect chemistry to engage and further energise the ravers.

Scar had kept us guessing till now as to what mystery style hardcore set she would spin out, after throwing out a vote to the MasterRaver crew on DSI to what set she would bestow upon us in her first solo set of the night. Ravers were more than happy with the breakbeat hardcore with added drum and bass and oldskool hardcore, as they were taken on a rollercoaster ride through hardcore.

With most of the ravers now arrived, the night had fast been became a kaleidoscopic array of bright multi colours as free glow sticks were given out to ravers to spread their love and smiles. These were given out inside the club to give a personal touch and way of introduction. Mark led the way in ensuring the ravers felt welcome.
Colourful artistic UV backdrops dominated the décor of the main room, as painted by the talented Kirsty, another of our Masterraver crew. Also taking pride of place, fronting the main stage dj booth was the treasured masterpiece of the huge smiley logo backdrop banner, which couldn’t have fitted here more perfectly.

With the night in full flow, DJ Naughty reclaimed the decks for his first set of the year, playing b2b with Intox, slamming out the hardcore, with a fantastic selection of tunes, including a fantastic mix of Prodigy’s No Good. DJ Naughty has been a loyal ressie since the start, and always impresses the ravers with his spot on sets.

This led into the favoured set of the night- Starspirt and Scar, launching in their set with ‘The Spirit’ and continuing to thrash out more stomping tunes including Scar’s own new tune with Joey Riot- Never Ending Dream. This was complimented by mcing by Flo and Phoenix spontaneously taking to the mic, raring to get the crowd even more ravid.

Crazytown duo- N Zime and Defy went b2b with a phenomenal debut masterravers set, with top mcing from MC Action. This pair are certainly in a league of their own, taking the crowd to another level of hardcore euphoria, and would have almost certainly blown the roof off had it not been nailed down.

DJ Blend, one of our latest hardcore ressies took us into the penultimate hour of hardcore, with ravers still stomping hard and waving their glowsticks.

The ununnounced performance from MC Phoenix saw his much welcome return to the mic, complimenting DJ Taz as he pounded out the final dose of hardcore. Those ravers that may have contemplated a wind down could think again, as Taz brought it on even harder and faster as he kept ravers stomping to the bitter end.
Taz is not only an exceptional dj but an essential cog of the MasterRavers promotions group giving his time and commitment whenever needed.

The hardstyle room running alongside all this was opened by DJ Sparrow, pounding out a set to get the ravers firmly in the mood and stomping away.

Lee SI followed next on the path to extreme hardstyle, full of energy, determination and skill, with his second appearance at MR, back by popular demand.

Another banging set followed by K-Logic, the recently formed unstoppable crazy duo of DJ Salmon and D Tox, not for the fainthearted.

Tyronnster, another one of MRs fave ressies and an invaluable part of the promotions crew was next on, with an energetic and pounding set, a dj that really knows how to work a crowd into a frenzy.

DJ Taurus took ravers further on their journey. More known as a hard trance dj and promoter of Elevation in Hereford, he certainly made his mark with this Bristol centred crowd who couldnt seem to get enough, and looking at the number of smiling faces were really enjoying themselves.

The main promoter of the night, Mastervodkaman, has continued his trend for the unconventional by thrashing out a spontaneous selection of tunes from his collection, giving the ravers a uniquely fresh, vitalising unrehearsed spectacular set. Tonights tuneage included a hardstyle remix of Born Slippy, setting ravers pulses racing even more.

At a point in the night where it has normally died down, ravers are still thirsty for more hardstyle beats. DJ Magpie, played his first official ressie set, and brought the hardstyle room to its conclusion with yet more dark hard beats.

As the lights doomingly came on around the club, ravers reluctantly make their way out, whether it was home to sleep or off to some afterparty for the die hard among us. For many of the MasterRavers evergrowing crew this was their first rave of the year, and met their expectations without a doubt.
The night was however not without teething problems. Amidst some sound issues much appreciation went out to all the djs for coping with non fully compliant monitor speakers, and still pounding out top rate performances.

I don’t think anyone was left with any doubts that MasterRavers has found a perfect new home at Blue Mountain. A true underground club with two floors of music styles, and an outdoors undercover smoking seated terrace, perfect for those cig breaks, and as a chill out area when occasionally being able to drag oneself away from the dancefloor.

MasterRavers is more about local djs rather than pulling in headliners for every one of our events, and has established an ever growing following of ravers, all of whom make the events the top nights that they are. The promotions world is even more of a tough challenge for the smaller up and coming promotions group especially in the midst of a recession, but are an integral part of ensuring the next generation of top djs will keep the scene going.

Everyone I have spoken to has strongly praised the top notch friendly atmosphere as the main thing that made their night, from start to finish. The night was filled with good, happy, smiley vibes, and true ravers purely there to have a good night. It was good to see lots of new faces at this event, along with the ever growing number of dedicated and proud T Shirt wearers. The best set of the night being of course Starspirits b2b set with Scar. There was a large amount of support for her among friends and fellow ravers as they stomped to their set, which also added to the unique happy atmosphere. Once again the night was trouble free, with even a door man commenting what a pleasure they found working that night.

The whole night itself would not have been the success it was without the dedication of its team of passionate ravers. I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone involved in and everyone who came along, all the djs, mcs and ravers, and all the MasterRavers crew that helped out leading up to and on the night- you know who you are.

Please feel free to add any of your own reviews of the night, and any comments or suggestions that can help with future events, as our nights are designed for you the ravers, or pm either myself, Mastervodkaman or Starspirit.

is definately so true! only her second set and she smashed it and totally loved her tune selection. one of the very keys of djing is be able to read a crowd and know what to drop now. Starspirit def showing that already! I know we'll def have alot more b2bs in future as shes very keen to push her music and one amazing friend as well so i be looking forward to some road trips and more mixing sessions in future! keep up the work hun.
