This article is about Hed Kandi @ Carling Academy in Bristol (UK), Sat 05 Aug 2006
Since I 'Quit' promoting nightclubs and events back on April fools day, saying I'm done & dusted with it all, and 'ill never run another night again... we'll I lied and only had a 20 minute break.... I just hope you're all grateful!!
I've bragged about many of my achievements and told everyone how wonderful I am, but I honestly think the proudest moment of it all occurred on Saturday night.
When everything comes together as it did on Saturday at The Bristol Academy, words just do not describe! Theres normally something to put a downer on the night and don't get me wrong, we can improve, but in general...... it was one hell of a night and I hope those that attended agree. I mean how good were those dancers to look at? The whole package from Hed Kandi was spot on, with the decor and stage set up looking as fantastic as before
I think the reputation of Hed Kandi in Bristol is pretty poor, yet Last October we gave you the best night of '05, so why? People were gagging for a return but all the hype fizzled out due to financial reasons.
In general, the House scene has moved on from Hed Kandi and taken a turn for the electro edged stuff... buts what to say that Hed Kandi cannot move with the times? After all, this years albums have all been credible.. I think a lot of people dissmissed this event beforehand as being cheesy and past it, but in Rob Wilder, John Jones and Andy Warburton.. Hed Kandi put on one of the greatest displays of 'how to entertain a crowd' that I have witnessed (and i've run nights featuring the king of entertainment - Timmy Mallett - see right >).
The night developed straight from the off. There were no prima-donna DJs trying to play the most 'upfront' set of their lives with no sense of how to interact with those that have paid to see them, just 3 genuinely talented guys looking to have a good time.
A massive thank you must also go out to the Djs that supported... Luke Langson and Alex Clark kept many of you dancing away upstairs whilst Greg Shaw and Amos Nelson (Indy 500) tore up the downstairs bar! But lets not forget Nathan Thompson, Stu Bennett and Andy Newman who all showed exactly why they are considered amongst the cream of Local DJing talent.
Anyone that spoke with me on Saturday will tell you just how excited i got beforehand, and anyone that spoke to me before saturday will tell you how nervous i was.. promoting events like this is a rollercoaster of emotions, but when it all goes according to plan, there is simply no better feeling.
I hope you all had as good a night as i did, but i have a sneaky suspicion that we havent heard the last of Hed Kandi in Bristol.....
