24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE
There have been many debates waged with regard to the current passing in government of the twenty four hour licensing bill. When it came into place it nationally changed the outlook of Clubbing as we know it. It wasn’t a case of back to mine anymore it was shall we just stay even longer or resume at another venue.

Vaginess & Empathy both enjoy reputations for showcasing the finest Electronic beats in the West Country. Both have received accolades from the dance music press and Radio so when these two behemoths clashed it was guaranteed to be a messy affair.

Hosting proceedings were promoters Thomas Christopher (Vaginess) and Stuart Wilkinson(Empathy). Supporting were residents on both sides, in the Vaginess corner Club Neon’s Mike Bull, Gareth Watkins and Lazerboy and in the Empathy corner Jim Rivers and Jay Russell. Additionally the Kingpin boys Gecko, Gilbatron and Kraymon added their breaks infused beats.

Thomas Christopher is currently enjoying a burgeoning reputation with being selected as a Mixmag Future Hero and running his own label with production partner Steve Payne by the name of TC&P Recordings. Whilst Jim Rivers is receiving recognition of his production abilities with signings to American based Saw recordings and Nic Fanculli’s Saved label.

For the price of a measly two sovereigns this was a bargain for all insomniacs. Casablanca situated in Stokes Croft not the stunning capital of Morocco was the nominated venue to host this display of Electronic debauchery.

To start off the experiment in sleep deprivation was Steve Redux of Giant Robot who delivered an up tempo Techy set. Then Jim Rivers treating the Empathy regulars to a tougher set than usual to reflect the time of morning. Thomas Christopher took over the helm delivering his trademark pumping Detroit flavoured Techno. Next up Jay Russell, but due to technical problems with his CDJ and severe vinyl depletion had to curtail his set. So to the rescue armed with their full compliment of vinyl Club Neon duo Mike Bull and Gareth Watkins. They treated the wide eyed crowd to their Berlin flavoured Electro beats. Lazerboy then took over the helm with his slightly more down tempo melodic Electronica

At 08.10 I had to retire but still leaving a good representation of the clubbing species to continue the experiment. Stepping outside to be greeted by glorious sunshine I had been truly educated. Who said the new twenty four licence was a bad deal

Speaking to Mike Bull about the new after party concept he relishes the idea because it gives him the chance to showcase the more hard edged Electronica that might not be suitable for a late night early morning set

Caution must be exercised though as you can see by this young lady by the name of Ruby who suffered from severe dehydration. The Gentleman chaperoning her was completely oblivious to her physical condition.
