FRIDAY 11TH MAY - DOJO LOUNGE
MIDNIGHT TIL 8AM
DOOR £6 ALL NIGHT (£5 NUS)

Following on from the success of our 1st Birthday with Layo & Bushwacka!, Halo returns in May with one of Germany's best DJ/Production teams, Afrilounge. Along with producing some of the finest minimal/tech house tunes of the last few years, their flawless DJ performances are guaranteed to set any dancefloor alight. Also May sees the return of Halo favourites Indy 500.

AFRILOUNGE stands for the vision of Pure House and Electronic Music, which is eagerly pursued by members Ed Heart, Richard Liapin and Liefko. Their DJ performances create a musical kaleidoscope from underground tunes to freaked out dance music. Their sound is represented by various styles rooted in house music, minimal techno and electrobeats. Even if their musical backgrounds are rather different, they easily combine them in their activities as DJs and producers in a very unique way.

ED HEART started his career in 1994 at Pforzheim's legendary club Kiwi, then in 1996 he took residency at Ozen and was been a steady part of Pforzheim's house and techno scene for many years, But it was at clubs like Prag in Stuttgart and Jailhouse in Achern where Ed really made a name for himself with atmospheric performances, always taking the audience to the next level and his predilection for soul music can always be recognized during his dj sets.

RICHARD LIAPIN got infected with the techno virus during a visit to Frankfurt's legendary Omen club in 1992. His DJ career began along with Ed in 1994 at the Kiwi Club, were he was killing the crowd regularly. Coming from a hip hop related background, he fixed his connection with techno during the next two years. In 1997 he founded a techno project called Bastlers together with Sören Kröger, which lead to three releases on Proton Records and a subsequent European tour. Since then he has continued to impress, the more recent releases as Afrilounge being testament to his production skills.

LIEFKO starting playing records in 1994 and became resident at Revo and Kiwi in Pforzheim, where he played regularly until 1996, gaining the reputation of a versatile turntablist. In 1996 he moved to Stuttgart, where together with a few friends, he launched the Neue Heimat events at club Prag, where he was resident from 1997 to 2002. As well as playing at all of Germany’s most renowned clubs like Ultraschall in Munich and Tresor in Berlin, Liefko, along with Ed and Richard, have been staging regular events under the brand "Raw Events’ in changing locations, receiving massive support from the likes of DJ T, Booka Shade, DJ Friction, Zoo Brazil and Green Keepers.

Now playing the world over, Afrilounge have always rocked every location they’ve found themselves in, sending the crowd wild with a crazy cocktail of electronic dance music and in the last few years their creative fusion has produced highly acclaimed tracks such as ‘The Dude’ and ‘Just For A Little Peak’. Along with the excellent remix of M.A.N.D.Y. Vs Booka Shade’s ‘Body Language’, their 2005 collaboration with Chardronnet, ‘Phonix’, received worldwide praise and was labelled by many as the best tech house tune of that year. 2006 proved to be just as fruitful, with the likes of the excellent ‘Pin & FKO EP’ and with the release of ‘We Are Here’ and the ‘Wasser Und Sonne EP’, plus an awesome remix of Randoman’s ‘Green Is The Light’ 2007 has started very brightly and is set be an even bigger year for all things Afrilounge.

So serving up another night of musical delight, Halo proudly presents Afilounge and Co for some more Dojo madness. We hope to see you all there....
