On Saturday 6th December, Electroquisite presents a very special one off mammoth event at the fantastic Motion Skatepark featuring a first Bristol performance in over a decade by former Underworld member & Underwater Records head honcho...
DARREN EMERSON
Darren Emerson remains one of the most influential figures in dance music, after a career spanning more than 17 years and counting…
At the tender age of 18, Emerson chose to ditch his job as an established city trader and take on dance music full time. Before long, a friend introduced him to Rick Smith and Karl Hyde, who together had been in a band for several years but needed new injection from a DJ/Producer... and so UNDERWORLD was born...
Signed to Junior Boys Own, for whom Emerson was already producing, the band released three albums: ‘Dubnobasswithmyheadman', ‘Second Toughest in the Infant' and ‘Beaucoup Fish'. They have since sold over a million albums world wide, with countless hits including the classics Cowgirl, Rez, Dark & Long and Born Slippy amongst others.
2000 saw Emerson depart from the band and go it solo.
His first collaboration was with DJ cohort Sasha for the Ibiza classic ‘Scorchio', and remixes for the likes 'Meeker' & 'Gus Gus' helped reconfirm himself as one of tech-house's heavy weights. Two Global Underground compilations soon followed, as well as the hugely succesful 'Underwater Episodes 1 & 2'.
Darren is also head honcho for the highy respected Underwater Records and since it's inception in 1994, the label has seen releases from the likes of Steve Mac, Mutiny, Meeker, Gus Gus, Pnau, Paul Jackson, Deepgroove, Sharam Jey and Tim Deluxe (whose ‘Sirens/ We All Love Sax' and ‘It Just Won't Do' managed to put the label firmly in place on the independent label spectrum).
In fact, in 2003, Underwater was voted label of the year by DJ mag and through hugely successful residencies at both 'The End' in London and 'Pacha' alongside Eric Morillo's 'Subliminal' night in Ibiza (twice voted Muzik magazine's Best Night of the Year), they have continued to go from strength to strength, year after year...
With it now having been well over a decade since Darren last played in the city, this already mammoth occassion takes on even more meaning... Our first event, in this very special venue, with a very special headline guest and true legend of the house music scene... One that's not to be missed people!!!
