Bristol’s house and techno heavyweights take on hotly-tipped electro young-guns for one unmissable Christmas clash of the club titans

Every generation has its defining collaborations – Ali and Foreman, De Niro and Pacino, Kylie and Jason. But this 12 December clubbers at Bristol’s Motion Skate Park will bear witness to the birth of a new dynasty, as Mixmag-favoured club-colossus Just Jack is joined by up-and-coming midweek party upstarts Groove On for one night of anything goes house, techno and electro tomfoolery.

Now in it’s third year, having cemented itself in Bristol’s party pantheon, Just Jack is taking its late-night naughtiness nationwide, with a residency in the Black box at Back2Basics, Leeds and Mixmag dubbing it one of the UK’s ‘Big 3’ club nights – ‘Just Jack has been pivotal in Bristol’s house and techno invasion’ (Mixmag). Meanwhile, the rave-reprobates behind Groove On, who’ve been slaying our midweek disco diaries with sets from the likes of Late of the Pier, Alex Gopher & The Proxy, are worthy contenders to join the Bristol big league.

Pulling together a bill of ultimate electronic prize-fighters in Etienne de Crecy, Style of Eye and the mighty Layo and Bushwacka, this party’s going to pack one hell of a punch.



Weighing in for Just Jack, with a summer residency at Space, Ibiza, their own cutting-edge underground imprint Olmeto, and a club-conquering career spanning nearly two decades, are undisputed DJ champions, Layo and Bushwacka. Returning to Bristol for the first time in 2 years, this will be an incredibly rare opportunity to see the duo in Motion’s infamously intimate Tunnel Room.

Their challenger, taking to the decks for Groove On, is legendary electro-house pioneer Etienne de Crecy. Founder of the Disques Solid label and the genius behind the genre-defining Super Discount LPs, his set of funked-up, frisky French electro house is sure to be like nothing the half-pipe crowd has witnessed before.

As if that wasn’t enough, support on the night comes from Swedish techno maestro Style of Eye, the producer behind 2008 smash ‘The Big Kazoo’, whose releases on Claude vonStroke’s Dirtybird imprint and Pickadoll have seen him hotly tipped by the likes of DJ Mag.

They’ll all be joined by the usual resident wrong-uns – the inimitable Tom Rio

With an after-party at Native set to keep the beats, bleeps and freaks pumping till the wee hours of the following afternoon, you’d be nuttier than a veggies Christmas dinner to miss out.
