Following on from the success of Halo, James Hurley takes a step deeper to bring you Halogen Nights – A new techno funk night showcasing some of the most talented DJ/Producers from across the globe. To kick things off we welcome Koljah, a rising star within the scene that has been responsible for some of the finest house/techno releases of the last couple of years. With a fluid mix of deep minimal beats and infectious tribal grooves, his DJ sets have rocked dancefloors all over the world, winning him fans including the legendary Richie Hawtin.

KOLJAH

Born in Wolfsburg, Germany in 1975, Koljah’s life has always had strong ties with music. He started out learning classical percussion before progressing to playing the drums at the age of 14. After leaving school, he went to music college to immerse himself deeper into rhythm and drumming, and from there went onto play in various jazz and rock projects.

However it wasn’t until his first experience of a techno party that he found his true calling in music. Having been blown away by the atmosphere and energy of the monotonic beats, he decided that dance music was the way forward.

After learning to mix he started putting on parties in his hometown, but it wasn’t until he moved to Berlin in 2003 and got himself a studio that things really started to happen. From his first release, 'I.L.M.B.I.B./My Room' on Phil.E Records in 2005, there has always been a touch of class about his production work that has won him praise from the likes of Agoria, Magda, Marco Carola, Ricardo Villalobos and Richie
Hawtin.

His next release saw him get signed to Sushitech, which resulted in the awesome 'LeckerKuchen' EP, and more recently the 'Loops For Work' EP, not to mention his remix of Mikael Stavöstrand’s 'Housedays' and Fusiphorm’s 'Green Chocolate' on Minimood.

Not content with making serious headway in the swamped Berlin techno scene, he also launched a hip hop project, ‘Der Aksel Des Bosen’, with his brother in 2004.

As well as his production work, Koljah has been a regular fixture at internationally renowned clubs such as Watergate and Panorama Bar in Berlin, whilst also gracing the decks at most of the major night spots around the world. His sets combine a fluid mix of deep minimal beats and infectious tribal grooves that always get the dancefloor rocking.
