Godskitchen presents Above & Beyond - Anjunadeep:01 World Album Tour 2009 @ The Syndicate (Bristol) in Bristol (UK)
Sun 03 May
Rui J B2B Kiki V
RJ and Kiki were in full flow with a following already on the dancefloor by the time I had arrived 15-20mins in. A familar structure to their set, a mix of newer and older classic trance, which to some maybe unjustified for the time they were playing (9:30 - 10:30). However the dancefloor did pick up because of some quality tracks like Ferry Corsten - Beautiful (my personal favourite of the set). They are really warm people, down to earth and Its great to have them around. Look forward to seeing you again guys! I should also mention that for a first set to get more people on the dancefloor than around the outside was credit to their set.
Hampton B2B Collard
Powering out of the blocks with one of my favourite tracks at the moment Marco V - Unprepared, taking things to a new level, building on from RJ and Kiki V's set. Really enjoyed the stuff they were playing, also shown by the rate the dancefloor continued to increase in density. I feel this was a good time slot for them, though it was not a packed out dancefloor at the beginning, I feel the way the set progressed was a credit to their ability of track selection to finish with having a large number of clubbers also loving the tunes!
Joel D B2B Ben Nicky Joel, I have to say has made me feel the most welcome out of all the DJ's I have met, ever. There have been a number of DJ's I have met who do come close however each and every time I meet him he it seems like he is never having a bad day (im sure he does but from what ive seen it doesnt show). A good combination again with Joel and Ben, not formally seen as B2B on the line up however it proved once again to be a good partnership. The style changed again from Ferry's set from the previous bank holiday, more rougher electro edges this time, really chunky and definatley was a crowd pleaser. The fact that they are able to move between different parts of the spectrum shows depth and adaptability to keep the regulars on their toes. Very impressed well done guys.
Above and Beyond Paavo and Tony were doing the rounds this time. You just can't miss Tony with his bleached blond hair and Paavo with his geekish glasses. They started off well, really taking a grip of the edgy style Joel and Ben had been playing before with a really sweet electro opener. Over the course of their set I feel that there was the usual mix of progressive and uplifting stuff. The atmosphere was not as up for it as it could have been. Its the first time Ive doen this but I actually went to the second room as it was not inspiring me like they had done before.
2nd Room - Julian Williams I was quite suprised by the second room, id not ventured to this cool little place with comfy seat/beds and with an intimate feel dancefloor. Julian who has been doing very well in the main room did not skip on passion even though dancefloor wasnt at its capacity. This guy really loves what he does and shows some good technical skills despite the kit being used seemed to be bouncing on some sort of trampoline :P. I only caught the last of his set but this guy will be doing great things in future if he continues with that same passion.
2nd Room - Dean Angel
You cannot mistake how much he loves being behind the decks, again Dean did not act like being 'cut' from the main room where he has played before. Hands in the air dancing around, he is a big personality. It is a shame that the dance floor was very quiet however I think people had caught wind that JOC had come in early! He did a good job, but did deserve a bigger crowd. JOC
Once again a last set and once again completley smashed it. Even at 3am I got a burst of energy to dance more then than I had all night. I really love what this guy is doing at the moment, both with productions and his sets. Find Yourself was one favourite tracks from his set and with other new tracks from his album, it sure is going to be a cracker! His style was very much suited to Judgement Sundays with a hard stamp on the 2nd half of his set. If I were only allowed to choose 1 act between JOC and Above and Beyond to whom I wanted to come back again It would sure be JOC!!!
See you all soon!
