NCS return this summer with another slice of quality House & Soul. Our guest of honour is Producer and DJ legend GRANT NELSON. If you have not heard Grant play before, you are in for a treat. The man is a technical wizard but, more importantly, he really knows how to make a dance floor bounce!
After a capacity turn out for our last event with Joey Negro, we thought long and hard about a fitting follow on to pack the venue again and provide smiles all round. Grant was our man.
It was also important for us to continue to deliver credible House & Soul events, still accessible though and not self indulgent. This is what has been key to our success. With more than enough harder dance and commercial goings on in Bristol, we’re happy to lead the way for those a little more knowledgeable, discerning, or open to something new.
Grant Nelson will be making a rare appearance in our neck of the woods and so this one is not to be missed. Grant started remixing as a teenager the likes of Chaka Khan, moving into Hardcore in the 1990’s and then, thankfully, to House! In 1995 Swing City Records was born, Grant’s own label, which has established itself as one of the main international House and Garage record labels, totalling release sales in the millions.
Grant has also remixed and re-produced for the likes of James Brown, Kelis, Jodeci, Frankie Knuckles, Artful Dodger, The Brand New Heavies, Juliet Roberts, Rosie Gaines, Chocolate Puma, Chanel, Mica Paris, Gabrielle & Faithless, to name but a few. Perhaps one of Grant’s most famous and recent remixes is of ‘Fade’ by Solu Music feat. Kimblee, bringing an underground classic to a mainstream audience.
We’ve not neglected the rest of our line up either! NCS has invested heavily in booking the sort of DJs that will deliver another superb night. Supporting Grant Nelson in the main room, we are pleased to bring over SHAI, founder of SECRET GARDEN, famed for its sexy, funky and outrageous outdoor terrace parties, and now playing out under his new and successful MUSIQUE project. Always with a good following, Shai is guaranteed to swell the dance floor as well.
If you fancy things a little more laid back, we have a Soulful treat up stairs with local Producer/DJ, RICH PRING of Park Street Productions. This will be Rich’s first appearance for us and we are really looking forward to him delivering on the decks the polish he applies to his slick productions. Supporting Rich will be LUKE RICHARDSON. This will be the third time we’ve brought Luke down to Bristol, which speaks volumes for how highly we regard his sets. Luke is a resident on Soul Satellite radio and manages Intensity Promotions in Nottingham. For the deeper, Soulful music lover, you won’t be disappointed with these two gents.
Of course, NCS residents MATT JOHNSON, DAN MASEY, ANDY MAYNARD, LIAM MELLOR, MIKE RUTHERFORD & SEAN McCABE will be on hand too. Matt remains one of the most successful DJs around, having spent a decade playing all over the UK, and incorporating influences from his frequent gigs in Ibiza and long residency in Portugal. Dan and Andy are proving to be local legends too. Andy has just returned from another summer playing in Corfu, and if you have not heard of Dan Masey in these parts, you can’t have been out in a while! A young DJ with rare maturity and versatility, now with a prized residency at Bristol superclub, The Syndicate, Dan is a cornerstone at NCS and never fails to absolutely rock.
We are without our youngest resident Will Clarke on this occasion as he is playing in Ibiza for the whole summer, and resident Mark Anderson, formerly of Ministry of Sound (and now ours!), on holiday at the time.
Our Soul contingent of Liam Mellor, Mike Rutherford and Sean McCabe will be on duty, however, and we are privileged to have such connoiseurs on board. Mike has held residencies at Escape, Crobar and Soul Satellite Radio and is enjoying success with his own night, Mellow Rhythms, whilst Sean’s productions on labels such as Soulfuric and Defected are highly regarded on the underground scene. He and Liam will be fresh from the launch of their Deep Soul night, Chicaboom, in Cardiff, with Deli G.
So, there it is, a bit about our guests, a bit about us, and a bit of a night in store!
