FUNK D’VOID(SOMA)

Lars Sandberg aka Funk D'Void is the intergalactic gigolo and spacefunk ambassador of Soma Records. He relocated to Barcelona three years ago, devoting his time to the completion of his second album 'Dos'. This aptly named opus is an aural experience of the highest quality and was released last year. This cosmic collection displays the Funk D'Void sound perfectly, from atmospheric string laden soundscapes to bass-fuelled techno bombs. A great album from a great producer.
The Sandberg story began in Glasgow thirty years ago, his mother is a classically trained concert pianist who still performs regularly. With this musical background Lars has always been absorbed in music. Hip Hop and electro were his introduction to dance music and when the acid house scene kicked off in 1986 his DJ career started. The bodypopping eighteen year old he was one of the first (alongside Slam) in Glasgow to catch the house music bug. Detroit techno was the biggest influence on Lars with Derrick May's 'Nude Photo' being the record that influenced him the most.
A seven year stint as a music buyer at 'Fopp Records' followed where he was exposed jazz, funk and soul. His production career began in 1994 with his friend Ken Sherman recording as `United States of Sound' on Glasgow label Bomba. Shortly after he hooked up with Soma and realeased formidable 'Jack Me Off'. Funk D'Void was born and this seminal tune was hailed as an instant classic with its razor sharp production and cracking jacking beats. The name Funk D'Void comes from the George Clinton character "Sir Nose D'Void of Funk". His debut album 'Technoir' was released on Soma in 1997
With his next Soma release he hooked up with Nigel Hayes, together they formed Chaser and produced the unforgettable "Sides Of Iron" EP which again gained massive support from DJ's, radio and music press. Two years later they returned with the infectious "Life in Loisaida", in 1999 they released their stunning debut album "Game On". Nigel has only recently moved to Barcelona as well and the pair of them are working on a Chaser follow up.

Meanwhile, Lars continued with his solo excursions as Funk D'Void. 1996 seen the release of the heavenly "Soul Man" and the massive "Bad Coffee". The latter was intensely remixed by Slam and went on to achieve a place in almost every music magazine's top techno single chart'. In 1997 as the European dates beckoned Lars began a live tour to coincide with the release of his dramatic debut Soma album "Technoir". It received incredible reviews from the entire music press on its release and was described as "highly infectious" and "stunning".
His other releases on Soma have been his jazz-tech homage to Herbie Hancock "Herbie on Rhodes" which came with remixes from Ian Pooley and Scott Grooves. Soma 69 was the revamped version of album cut "Lucky Strike" with label mate Envoy on the remix duties. He has himself completed many brilliant remixes for people including Sterac, Orlando Voorn and Kevin Saunderson. He has also set his own record labels "Dark Knight" and "Silver Knight". Tracks released from the album ‘Dos’ are ‘Barnabeats’ (which was also remixed by Octave One), ‘Desperado’ and ‘To Ya Waistline’. ‘Diabla’ is the next track to be taken, for this release Lars has reworked this into a techno behemoth, his ‘Heavenly’ mix is being hailed as the best techno track of 2001 from the likes of Pete Tong. Remixes of this track came from Kevin Saunderson, Samuel L Sessions and The Hacker.
Lars has also just completed a fantastic remix of New Order’s ‘Someone Like You’ and Slam’s ‘Virtuoso’.
As one of Soma's most prominent artists, Funk D'Void has proven to be a consistent player in today's club scene and never fails to deliver powerful, emotional sessions wherever he plays. Having started Djing since 1986 (Scottish DMC finalist 2 years in a row) he shows no sign of slowing down, showing a hunger for music and interaction with international clubbing crowds that is unparalleled .
His recent collaborations with artists like Alexander Kowalski, Phil Kieran and Ken Ishii have seen him venture into a more edgy, raw clubbier feel and this has translated into his sets of late. His new LP "Second Skin" promises a new arena for Lars to showcase his talents as he is constantly looking for new sounds and inspiration - whilst never losing that visceral, emotional core to his music and performances .
Funk D'Void is going to make you freak
JODY WISTERNOFF (WAY OUT WEST)

Jody's biog is deceptive, as he's achieved so much in a short space of time._Selling over 100,000 albums and delivering a Top 40 hit with his band Way_Out West would be enough for most people. Yet along side their 3 Albums,_countless remixes and production duties on everyone from the astonishingly_cool (James Holden, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Orb, Roni Size) to the_ridiculous (Natalie Imbruglia) Jody has managed to create music that not_only elevates every dance floor but has also been used heavily in film and_TV, (The OC, CSI, Grey's). 2004/2005 also saw a world tour on their own and_sharing billing with Faithless and festival slots for Radio 1 at_Glastonbury, Creamfields, Prague, Creamfields UK and Argentina. Jody's sound_has been his global meal ticket.
But let's rewind a little to before all that happened he'd already won the_DMC Mixing championship regional heats at the criminally young age of 15,_torn every rave apart in the early 90s as Sub Love with Full Cycle's DJ Die_and djed at most clubs Worldwide worth djing at then got the band together_by the time he was twenty and on single three tore up the airwaves and the_TOTP studio with partner Nick Warren on their big hot "The Gift".
Right now, in between Way Out west albums he is producing solo works _(first single "Cold Drink, Hot Girl" is coming out on Distinctive, _picked up his djing habit again and is off to LA to start scoring tv shows_for real.
