an intimate christmas treat im glad i made it to!
this was a fantastic night. my first visit to a decent night in bristol that focuses on the music i love. mainly because previously i did not know anyone who was up for coming with me - and taxi's are a bit on the expensive side with just one person.

as my first visit to an empathy/timubuk2 night i was very happy with what i saw and heared. we got there at about 22.50 and there were a small number(70??) of what seamed like proper fans of the genre. it felt like the night had really got a proper group of regualar with good attitudes. upon having a butchers at the sound rigs i was concerned at the mismatch of loudspeaker systems in the main room - it looked like more gear had been brought in and set up by the organisers on the night. - and i was wary of whether the systems would have been configured to their best capabilities. i was mistaken though. the volume and balance was perfect. the type of sound that is loud but does not render your hearing useless by the end of the night. lighting was also just right and added to the superb atmosphere of friendly faces.

music - the sounds progressed very well. the chap who was playing in the main room upon entry built up the floor very nicely and paved the way for 16bit lol's. his set was great. it started at a more sombre vibe than what was being played before, but this was a good thing. his first tracks really gave an idea of where the set was gonna progress.

at 1am we changed rooms. and went to hear wisternoff's set. and for me this was the set that did it for me. the rig had that pulsing feeling throughout. and it kept getting more and more intense. the set was happy as i expected. and suited the small intimate space where it was being played.

9.5/10 - if the red stripe were £2.50 instead of £3 then it would be 10/10 :)

That would be Matt Rickard, of Hope Recordings!

I agree - A nice set! Though rather short - partly cos Empathy had promoted a 9pm start, but Timbuk2 were expecting their usual 10pm opening, so punters who turned up B4 10 went off back 2 th pub - so the club didn't fill up till 1130 ish, when 16Bits came on. Promoter Stu didn't get a set at all!

Caught a bit of Jim Rivers set in room 2 which sounded ace

You also missed a good set by Dave Seaman (& sounds like I missed a good Jody set :-( )

Another great Empathy nite! Already lookin forward to Dan Welton on Jan 26th - Good to have somethin comin up as Jan is such a crap month usually!

& wouldn't mind paying extra 4 proper tins of Red Bull instead of the sweet muck that's on tap! (luckily the vodka is OK tho'!)

fucking amazing night- one of my best empathy nights- Jim Was Awesome and Jody kept it at the same pace i love it when that back room kicks off- and it did !! missed 16 bit -shame- but dave seaman just absoulutley rocked the main room- particully liked how when the mishap of a stuck cd would soon be turned into a little skill on the CDJs which just worked- sign of a tru pro !! And my kind of tunes bit of a mixture and not straight forward progressive - which was perfect.

Brilliant !! And i got a T-shirt - oh yeah!
