A BIRTHDAY TO REMEMBER
It was a double celebration for Mr. Wilkinson, as well as the new Friday Empathy residency there was a small matter of his Birthday. What better way to spend your special day than getting all your mates into Bristol’s premier underground venue... As previously mentioned Stu has a gift for headlining new talent and this was proved again with the Bristol debut of Luke Dzierzek

In the main room was a double headliner. First up was house & NRK veteran Jamie Anderson. This selector certainly delivered some gifts; during his two hours he took the crowd on a journey that encompassed the true Electronic scene, from beautiful progressive gems, to fierce Acid cuts and tough techy numbers. He certainly read his crowd keeping them guessing with all the way. Leaving the booth with a massive grin on his face he knew he had delivered a vintage set.

Next to take over the hallowed T2 turntables was Luke Dzierzek. I was looking forward to his set, having just remixed Suicide Sports Club he his highly regarded by the likes of Digweed, Sasha & co. His set was on a more electro, techy tip and treated us to his technical wizardry on the CDJs. Spurring the crowd till 03.15 he justified his burgeoning reputation and left me with heat exhaustion. Having achieved so much at a young age this boy can expect a rewarding & fruitful career ahead of him.

Rounding off proceedings, Stu himself, rocking the Empathy crowd in his own unique way. Stu knows he has arrived because I have never seen him enjoy himself so much as the last two Empathy nights. After five years of stress and toil he is now reaping the rewards. His established base crowd know that they will get more than value for money each and every time. There was one complaint Stu, I wasn’t impressed with the speech, (you sounded like you felt a little horse) you will have to work on that for next year.

In room two was the debut of Club Neon featuring formidable electro partnership of Mike Bull & Gareth Watkins. In addition to wowing the punters with beautifully crafted electro they incorporated Final Scratch into their set, which added another dimension. I have never seen this up close & it gave a fascinating insight into the minds of Messer’s Bull & Watkins. A true unique and personal touch, you must catch these boys.

Well it may have been Mr. Wilkinson’s Birthday but the punters were definitely given a musical gift by all the nuggets dropped, excellent value, with two headliners & and unique DJ set from the Club Neon boys. Definitely a Birthday bash to remember and throwing down the gauntlet for next months headliners Hybrid on Fri 24th March.

If you want more of this come to Pure @ Manhattan Bar 12 to 5 am this Fri where the cream of the Brizzie house scene can be found, the line up is Stu (Empathy), Paul Loraine (Loco), Renny C (Kool Waters, Chicago) Justin Gettings (Buoyancy) Greg Shaw (Moochin) Sac Majique (Filthy Gorgeous) and Joe Watkins (Space) and on Sat the legendry Loco @ T2 where the headliners are Dub Funk minimalists Peace Division.
