INVASION
They came they rocked and they conquered. Three breaks warriors from across the Severn estuary and the far land of Cwmbran armed only with CDJs and Acetates. Their quest to secure the West Country capital of Bristol and build their fortress at a secret underground HQ code named Timbuk 2. The name of these invaders HYBRID.

Two years after their last conquest in Bristol Hybrid returned acting on intelligence that their Breakbeat religion had almost ceased to be practised by the Empathy counsel. This was previously a significant condition of the Empathy treaty of surrender during the battle of Bar Latino... There were many similarities between their last victory and the one on 24th March 2006. Their preferences were both small sweaty underground bunkers. However the display of Shock and Awe of this latest conflict has been described by the majority of the Empathy tribe as the best battle ever hosted in its’ Five year history.

The first line of defence in room one was defended by Hijack who included code named the thinking Housewives, they unleashed their own brand of Break beat, funk, and beats as a brave decoy that indeed stalled the Welsh warriors and raised there own profile. Alas the Hybrid War machine marched on the main room where the dashing Audio hero and ladies favourite Wing Commander Jaymondo Russell was waiting to strike.

After receiving poor intelligence Jaymondo had to take drastic measures by attempting to deceive the Hybrid massive by fooling them into thinking he possessed a huge armoury of vinyl in his impressive record bag when in fact, he was only equipped with one hours worth of CDJs and trusty ear pieces. Even with his depleted armoury he led a brave stance and delivered a set that won the respect of his enemy. Finally defeated and captured his bravery was acknowledged and he was taken away for interrogation. What did baffle the Hybrid Hierarchy was the missing Beanie, such a vital part of the icon’s uniform.

Arriving in a last ditch attempt to repel the invaders was Field Marshall Stuart Wilkinson. He delivered a smooth more ethereal Techy set than he usually does dropping treats such as David Sense "Brainfucker" Lo-Step "Because We Can" and Bristol’s own Starecase’s "Vapour Trails" Then in a last ditch attempt unleashed his favourite weapon the Smoke machine, a shocking and merciless tactic but even this did not deter the Welsh Wizards. So even with Stuart’s experience in the audio battle field this proved not enough as the Welsh Warriors took their right full place behind the T2 decks.

They then unleashed their full Breakbeat arsenal onto the Empathy troops delivering the tough Funky breaks that had been missing. Mesmerising their shocked audience with the full range out of their ammo boxes, the crowd were their prisoners. Rounded up onto the main floor, there was not a single millimetre of space remaining. They rocked and swayed to every beat. Showing no mercy the aggressors dropped the FSOL classic Papua New Guinea, but worse was to follow!!!. With an awesome finale unleashing for the first time in three years their own ground breaking Finished Symphony. They had regained their rightful place and all would be speaking the Breakbeat tongue. The floor was littered with devastated broken beat casualties. They surrendered ready to serve only the Hybrid Empire.

However there was to be a dramatic twist as General Jim “Bowie” Rivers arrived to wage his own personal battle to reclaim the Empathy soil. As this being his first year as an Empathy resident he knew he had to risk everything for this lost cause. Launching his full arsenal of Electro orchestral energy, he pounded the Hybrid sound system into retreat. He then delivered his own secret weapons in the shape of three of his own productions, Restore (Saw recordings), Catch 22 (Saved recordings) and Square One (Eq recordings). This was too much for the Welsh Warriors and they agreed a truce. The new agreement was signed up on the proviso that more Breaks would be preached at the church of Empathy. Field Marshall Wilkinson immediately began to negotiate reparations by bringing in Meat Katie for the 5th Empathy Birthday on 29th April 2006

The Hybrid Warriors left to continue to achieve their goal of World Breaks domination, but the Empathy hierarchy now they can’t relax as they will return anytime in the future.

Meanwhile the Empathy crowd was left shattered and exhausted, to rebuild their batterd bodies after this aural assault, wondering if they ever will witness a battle of this proportion again
