From our inception and through the continued lifelong education it is human nature to yearn for love, respect, acknowledgment and to be rewarded for all the achievements we make. On Sat May 6th 2006 Loco witnessed two young and up and coming DJ Producer talents who have recently been acknowledged with regards to their toils connected with Electronic House. Their names Mr.Andy Moor and Mr.Jim Rivers.

Andy is currently enjoying notoriety due to scooping the Miami Winter Conference prize for best underground track. It goes without saying the MWC is regarded as the first date on all producers and DJs Calendar. Collaboration wise he has just released his debut album with production partner Leama, whilst joining the legendry Parks & Wilson to re complete the Tilt line up previously filled by John Graham. All this having just turned 25 years of age.

Jim Rivers is a year older and based just outside of Bristol, he appears regularly for Empathy and in January was made a resident. He is also enjoying recognition for his endeavours with two productions being signed for Satoshi Tomie’s Saw label and one too Nic Fanculli’s Saved imprint. To be recognised by Mr Tomie is a massive acknowledgement is itself. When Pete Tong, the man responsible for obliterating musical boundaries and showcasing the finest dance music available decided to air Restore (Jim’s debut Saw release) in the coveted Essential Selection hot mix, this was and still is, the ultimate accolade.

In addition to both being talented DJs and producers these gentlemen both possess something else. Quizzing Andy after his gig I congratulated him on an impressive set and wished him all the best with his career. He was delighted and appreciated all that has happened to him during his involvement with the Dance scene but didn’t want to embrace all the trappings that went with it. He conveyed he wasn’t concerned or yearned for people to know his name, his only objective was to make and play out the tunes he loves.

Having known Jim properly for about six months it has become apparent to me what a genuine and thoughtful person he is. Moving down to the Bristol area to continue working for a Charity his only concern whether in a professional or social capacity is to improve the quality of human life.

00.05hrs late again, missed Paul Loraine’s set but all reports were that another vintage delivery by the Co Promoter. Andy Moor Just was just starting his journey of driving pumping Electronica. In previous months, Loco’s headliners have showcased more on the Minimal Electro/Techno tip but Andy delivered a different perspective with updated Progressive flavoured beats between 125 & 130+ Bpms. Beautiful swirling hooks and effects without being saturated by prolonged breakdowns, rained down on the Loco faithful. His finely tuned receptacles ensuring the right balance to ensure all aural senses were enhanced. Not afraid to blend some tougher edge slates, his only concern that the Loco elite used every millilitre of their adrenaline fuelled bodies to banish all the negativity amassed during the working week. 02.10 & time for Mr. Jim Rivers to present his Electronic Outlook.

The Empathy lynchpin was is my opinion about to play the set of his career. Jim always the professional prepares himself accordingly to ensure his sets are delivered to maximum performance. Playing away from home gave him the chance to showcase a wider spectrum. Taking it down several notches to introduce a few more acidic elements, slowly upping the tempo but keeping the raw edged Electronica intact. By this time the main floor had swelled due to a large contingent of away supporters arriving. They wasted no time in indulging themselves in the audio sculptures Jim was bestowing. As ever Jim’s set was in a limbo state just brushing the boundaries of Tech house, Techno & Progressive, never indulging in one but embracing and blending to create an Electronic Conundrum Highlights of his set were Oxia with “Domino”, the outstanding Guy Gerber’s “x factor” Jim with his own double of “Route One” and “Restore” Mike Miller’s “What you feel” Jim’s own take on that, minimal meister Trentemoller with “killkat” Space resident Paul Woolford with “313 part 1” and Theo parish’s Falling Up with Detroit legend Carl Craig rearranging the pieces. 04.00 and sadly the May Loco shut down had been initiated. A quote from Jim regarding his Loco debut "the LOCO crowd as always were on top form making my job easy! It was a tall order coming on after Andy but hopefully people were into my groove. Absolutely loved playing and am looking forward to my next set at LOCO soon!"

During the shenanigans in the Main room Joe Hart and Luke Sanger were offering their own unique flavours in Room One encompassing everything from broken beat, Soul, Hip Hop, Rock and Techno creating a Home from Home atmosphere.

Tomorrow is the next instalment of Loco featuring Audio Jack, Devolution & Fucha Elektronikz. So join us for the cream of Electronic House, remember once a second has elapsed it is gone forever, for every Loco that is not embraced it is a chapter in life lost.
