Music : House and Techno

Acid Casuals present SOMBOM featuring Green Velvet, Alex Smoke, Jamie Jones and Acid Casuals DJs
SATURDAY 28TH APRIL, CARDIFF, COAL EXCHANGE. Doors 9pm – 4am
P4 Music & Acid Casuals have joined forces to present a huge line-up exclusively securing the mighty Green Velvet/Cajmere, Alex Smoke and Jamie Jones.
Cut from the same mould as the kings of techno, Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig and Derrick May, Chicago’s Green Velvet and his alter ego Cajmere have been producing house and techno for nearly 20 years, with a back catalogue featuring legendary tunes including La La Land, Flash, Genedefekt and the recent re-release of Shake and Pop that is ripping up dancefloors worldwide all over again. Over the years Green Velvet/Cajmere has been remixed by many of the greats of house music, most notably Danny Tenaglia, Dave Clarke and Timo Mass. His most recent release, Ministry of Sound Sessions, is a battle of alter-egos, as both monikers fight it out through twisted, quirky beats of house and techno. Velvets flamboyant personality is transferred into one of dance music’s most exciting performances.
Soma signing Alex Smoke is one of club lands fastest rising young stars. He emerged from the Glasgow music scene in 2002, releasing debut album Random As on underground label Savalas Records to critical acclaim. Since then, the Scottish producer has continued to push the boundaries of electronic music with his innovative fusion of deep European minimalism with emotional strings and intelligent electro rhythms. 2006’s mighty Paradolia album and remixes of musical heroes Steve Reich, Junior Boys and Depeche Mode cemented him as a leader in his field. Alex has also released a number of EP’s on cool German imprint Vakant under the Quixot pseudonym, and a Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi mix CD following in the footsteps of Luciano and Ewan Pearson. His talent has seen him travel the world, with plays at Sonar and Watergate to name a few, and his live performances are renowned for their programming and attention to detail.
Support comes from Crosstown Rebels’ up and comer, Jamie Jones, who developed his deep and groovy sound playing at his own warehouse parties before spending a number of seasons working the Ibiza circuit and recently playing Fabric. His performances have won him respect from the likes of Damian Lazarus with whom he has have a forthcoming Get Lost mix CD due for release in March. Jamie’s debut ‘Amazon EP’ on Dan Ghenacia’s Freak n’ Chic label was widely regarded as one of the finest debut EP’s in recent years, and he has since had highly acclaimed releases on Poker Flat and Crosstown Rebels.
Not content with bringing you the best that dance music has to offer, special attention has also been placed on sound and visuals, visuals are being provided by cutting edge AV company Pictureworks who have worked with everyone from Super Furry Animals to Creamfields. Not forgetting the soundsystem, Sombom will be bringing a cutting edge surround sound system, the likes of which have never been heard in Cardiff clubland.
SOMBOM co-promoters Acid Casuals have been involved in underground art, music and fashion in Wales and around the world since 1993. The collective, which includes Super Furry Animals’ Cian Ciaran and writer/producer Kev Tame, ignore the boundaries of working to one medium. SOMBOM, in collaboration with P4 Music, is an example of what they do best – bringing together the finest innovators of visual and audio entertainment.
SOMBOM is Portuguese for good sounds, and with this outstanding line-up the sounds coming to Cardiff clubland have never been better or more up-front.
